Has anyone used heat wrap to wrap your exhaust pipe and keep the under hood heat down? Is there any downside to doing this?

Don't know about the temps but I wrapped a pipe on my 99 Summit and the seams on the pipe are wearing thru the wrap. The natural engine/exhaust vibration is causing the wear. I put the wrap on when I replaced my pipe's aluminum shield because some of the fiberglass insulation was missing and/or disintigrated under the old shield.

wrap (header tape) works really good..pull it tight ..tape over it with aluminum duct tape(oil boiler pipe breeching tape)...holds her all together...don't need wire or clamps...
