Wanna see some flaky rings?

Thanks to all to input from this forum, I was able to make an informed purchase of my 04 800HO. After looking inside the cylinders before buying it and buying new rings right away, i finally am changing them before this season. Look like the talk about the flaking rings is pretty accurate in my case. Sled has about 1200 miles. Hopefully...an ounce of prevention.

Duh....which way does ring the dot go?

I forgot to note the postion of the dot on the rings. They are semi-trap and have to go in one way....I just can't remembger which way. I have the complete shop manual, but they don't address it either. NAy quick help would be appreciated.

Angled edge up--I think this is dot up as well.

You should think about getting new piston too. Besides flaky rings the 04 had problem with the ring pin and the rings would spin.

Thanks guys. Did some homework and found that 'dot up' is standard and 'wide' edge up.....makes sense for compression. YA...probably should go with new slugs too.
