I have been riding for 15 years and I've never experienced these snow conditions this time of year.
I went up a steep draw to the top and turned out when I got to the trees.
It was something that I have always climbed. I tore through the base as I climbed...Little did i know the base of snow was ice with a little fluff on top. I came down like a rocket, couldn't slow down and turn to avoid trees below me.
I thought about bailing. Then before I knew it the trees were there. I positioned the sled the best I could to miss them. I closed my eyes expecting to have seriously bodily injury done to me. My sled's right side caught a tree. My body missed it by inches. I went head over heals twice. My brother thought I was dead.
The whole front end of my sled is messed up, but the bulkhead seems ok.
Anyway, I will always be mindful to check the condition of the snow in every area I ride...huge lesson learned. I've been spoiled for 15 years and it made me complacent.
