XP owner's-check your Y-pipe bolts

Two people I know found missing y-pipe bolts, and had others VERY loose. One had to call it a day, there was a pretty good gap between the y-pipe and the cyl, resulting in a poor running engine.

the rev's did the same thing. I have friends that carry nuts around with them incase it happens.

Are they nuts or bolts on the xp?

They are an allen head bolt, I believe 6mm. One friend said he was going to drill the heads on the new bolts so he could wire them, like they do on some aircraft fasteners.

This happened to us last year on a rental 800r, all but one bolt fell out and the gasket was to ****ed up for repair. 15 mile tow out :(

Take em out red lock tite em and put them back in to proper torque. I have 2 800's and have had no problem. I look at them everytime I put oil in to see if they are loose visually but have never checked them with an allen wrench as that breaks the lock tite and they would work out then.

I just installed M6 NordLock washers on the 8 Y-pipe bolts of my new XP 154 X(0 miles) as a "preventative" measure. I did notice that when removing them for the Nord washer install that 5 of the 8 had somewhat of a "looser" feeling when breaking them loose and threading them out. IMO, I think that these 5 would have eventually worked their way to coming loose & been a future problem given the tightness they were when removing them...

I had 4 of mine come all the way out before I noticed. The other 4 were finger loose. Loc tite will not last. Use Nord Lock washers and you will not have a problem again. I think I was at about 140 miles on my xp when they came out in the middle of no where. Good thing my buddy had a allen wrench to crank down the ones I had left!

My brothers sled had this happen last weekend. Lost 2 bolts on mag side and the gasket, and 1 bolt on the pto side. Same issue as with the 07's.

Too say the least, I was shocked that the 08 did this. I removed the y pipe and pulled out the blown gaskets, bolted the y pipe to the heads and ran it the rest of the day. The surfaces mated cleanly and I had no blowby. I thought I was going to be towed back.......how does that saying go?....."making lemonade out of lemons."
