XP: Mesh Side Panels?????

OK, just trying this. Got one frame done, now I'm ready to cover it.
It uses the stock fasteners and hinge slots.

wheres everbody going to put their useless vinal, you trying to slow them down without their high speed graphics?
how do these unlatch from the top hook? are the frames fairly flexable, how about durability. i rolled my plastic panels and you could see the areas where it stressed the panel permanently. ill roll your proto types for ya!

I did the same design for the hood of my ZX. It held up for 2 years of roll over abuse. I think it's stiffer than the stock panels. And, if you bend it, all I had to do was throw it down in the snow, and stomp it back into shape. Worst happens, I'll just peel the fabric back, and re-weld it.

I'm planning on using textilene mesh fabric. Should let lots of air flow through.

Frame is flexible, and the top hook just lays over the latch nub, and the latching mechanism captures the aluminum plate.

That's why there are 3 round bars on the lower end, lot's of lay over support.

i am about to chop up my new panels but this looks like a way better idea, what colors? dark red

how much do the frame bars weigh?

Good question. Just happen to be looking at it.

Aluminum Frame: 1 pound 9 ounces.
Mesh: ~ 8 ouces worth

Stock Side Panel: (with foam stripped off) 2 pounds 10 ounces.

I'm not shooting for weight savings. By the time it's done, I hope to just be equal.

I'm going all black. But, they make every color you can imagine.

I have no idea what something like this is worth. I know it takes a lot of time to hand bend all the metal, and machine the hinges. Applying the fabric will take time. If I didn't have a real job that takes all my time, I'd mass produce them. I'd be happy to help anyone that needs info though. I'm a DIY guy.

If someone really wants a set, I might build a few. I'll think about it. Let me get the fabric on, and we'll see how it looks.

This is were I get my fabric: textilene plus
They also make a "more air flow" version textilene

parts

maby it could be an assemble your self kit, hinges bar plate and mesh all cut to length.

Just a few more tie wraps and it will be done.
Slimmed up to the HPS can.
I may add a 0.032" thick aluminum shield between the mesh and HPS can, just for those hard carving days.

1 lbs, 15 ounces, We'll just call it 2 pounds. :)

Looks great!

Looks like alot of work, but the results are worth it! Have you gotten the other side done yet?

If these panels survive, you may have unwillingly created a monster for yourself. All the hard-core guys will want a set. Better set aside all of your free time this winter. "Sorry guys, no time to ride. I've got 58 more XP panels to build and the orders are pouring in...." :D

the plastic shroud is the gayest thing known to man, all it does is make the belt hotter. take it off. its designed to keep the belt at a constant temp, which on doo's is way to high anyways
