At about 120 miles the overheat light comes on and I notice green coolant in the snow below the machine. Overflow bottle is empty. Anyone had this problem?

Solutions?

So what do I check for? Thermostat? Radiator cap? Heat exchanger? Hoses and clamps? With the tight packaging its a little tough to see everything!

I have heard some radiator caps were bad, but would that allow out more fluid than the reservoir holds?

When you are in reverse does the water pump change direction and cause a problem if it is used too long??

Yeah I actually had this happen this weekend. The fitting on the top of the motor for the thermostat comes loose and all the coolant gets pumped out. Just took of the hose got 3 turns out of the fitting, like it was never tightened. Put the hose back on, filled it with water and rode the rest of the weekend. Just have to take off the clutch guard to fix it.

Buddies sled had the same problem on it's first ride, could smell coolant as soon as it got warm so he cought it early. The fitting on top was stripped out from the factory.

My riding partner had same issue...loose fitting on top of motor like hand tightened only. He tighted it but still leaked all day yesterday and added about 8 bottles of drinking water through the day to get back. Either it needs some tape or goop or there is another leak. Probably should be taped. Goose

I noticed some coolant in the snow also, checked cap out,and it was fine, bottle full,so i thought it was my overflow, i better investigate further, thanx for the info

Thermostat

Is the external thermostat an issue?

Fixed!

Brass fitting that screws into the old thermostat housing was loose. Took the hose off and tightened the fitting. Reattaded hose and the problem seems fixed as it holds preassure and fluid now.

Good call Winter brew!

Same thing happened to me it was the copper fitting on top of the motor that wasn't tightened enough, I took the hose clamp and hose off and tightened the fitting one more turn and this fixed the problem. good luck!

You do not have to check for anything. Take it to your dealer for repair, that is why it came with a warranty.

Lazy?

Dealer is two to three weeks out. You're move?

No not lazy but you paid for that warranty in the price of the sled. If you think you fix it and end up not fixing it and you lose all your coolant and burn the motor down, dealer could say what you did caused it and voided the warranty.I think if I bought a sled from a dealer and he told me he could not look at something as simple as a coolant leak (usually) for 2 weeks I would look for another dealer for my next purchase. Unless you did buy it from another dealer and then said dealer is probably putting his customers ahead of you.

What happened to just fixing something in 10 minutes and enjoying the day than going thru all this? Wow!
