XP driveshaft testing pics!

I think most started breaking around 400 miles. I think the majority of the failures have been on 163's too! A few 154's, I don't know about 146's

First post here but, Was riding sicamous last week and my driveshaft spun at 485 miles just ripping around in meadows about 3' deep. I talked to the dealer there he said he was 2 week behind so they couldn't help but did say they are adding a sleeve to the shaft long enough to butt up against the ribs in the center and then welding it all the way around with good results. Im waiting for the word from my dealer in calgary they said the new shafts are to be in this comming week they didn't know if the new one's are beefed up or not. I guess we will see. BTW im ridding a 154 everest.

I had mine welded up at 300 miles. I have roughly 420 miles now and is still ticking. Anyone hear of any failures where the driveshaft was welded??

I just got back from the Iron Dog (Trail Class) and broke my drive shaft on my 600 MXZ-X Ren 137. We had it welded just before we left Big Lake and it tore apart just outside of Unalakleet, Alaska about 700 miles into the trip. It did tear apart at the weld and it looks like three of the four plug welds ripped out. I was traveling at 75-85mph and hit some shelf ice that sent me into the air and I could tell once airborne that I had lost it, this was about 4pm.

We had another one brought in by airplane from Anchorage by 10:30am the next morning and were back on the snow by noon! The one pic shows a cork we used to plug up one end of the driveshaft since the plastic one broke upon removal.

We have 7 rental Xp 800 Everests from 400 miles to 1,400 miles and no problems yet, but I will get them in ASAP to get welded after seeing it first hand.

I have 900 miles of hard riding on mine with no trouble, but I try to be easy on the landings when I jump so there is not a large shock load to the whole sled not just the drive.

But, I hit the famous pine cone and I had insurance (thank god) $3912.00 and she will be ready by next tuesday. The hit was so soft that I only noticed something was wrong because it popped my choke to full. Kinda disappointing but since I got the 377 belt the damn thing backshifts and climbs like it should have when it was new and I really like the handling since I removed the swaybars.

What did you hit? I pounded a rock, broke my thumb, bent the S-module and it only cost $460 smackers to fix. Did you wipe out the shocks and a-arms on both sides?

Hey, It sounds like you are doing good as far as parts and service goes. I'm not sure when you did the damage but I nailed a rock and ordered the S-module , control arms and shock for the right hand side on january 9 ($1097.73) and I am still waiting for the S-module. Hopefully it's in when my drive shaft comes in and they can do it all in one shot. The ski is only pushed back 1.5" so I just kept riding. How many miles do you have on the 377? They are giving me one when I pick it up.

I just broke in two 377 belts. 65 miles on one, looks fine. Just put the other one on Saturday and put 52 on it. Looks fine too!

I can see the bottom of your boots. I don't think that is standard jumping procedure. I think you are trying to baby your drive shaft by minimizing your land weight/force.

You're exactly right! My 210lbs don't need to be onboard for the intial impact:face-icon-small-ton

I hit a guard rail post, barely felt it. It looked like the shock was ridged and shoved everything up and ripped out all the rivets busted the plastic right were the hinge is for the right panel and buckeled the tube above the can, as far as the a-arms go I really did not look that close @ them they would have been to easy to fix anyway, it also moved the pipe and everything back hard enough to bend the outlet of the can forward. That is all I could see real easy, the dealer might have found more when he got into it.

Like I said this was not a hard collision @ all, makes me want to drill the A-arms so there will be a week link before all this stuff.

This was the first ride for the 377. I had hit a stump earlier in the year and moved the ski back a little (shock was barely touching the a-arm) but it still handled good so I ran her for another 400 miles till this happened and I had no choice but to take it in.

I know a guy who ran the irondog with a 600 sdi, driveshaft welded and it still broke. Said it didnt look like the penetration on the weld was the best but still? I'm welding mine, and expect it to brake just after warranty, in the middle of the Alaska backcountry. Yeah I'm a little concerned too.

Did some more testing today at the Range.................

stop it tp! didnt ya hear? thoughs things are made of aluminum cans? they'll break in half! lol. ride mine like that to. zero problems.

Don't tell anyone Johnny, but my sled looked like a crumpled up Pepsi can after that hit;) The XP is such a POS I've totalled six of them so far just by catching a little air:rolleyes: I'm glad that somebody else on hear uses their sled like it's meant to be used; a little air time is chicken soup for the soul!
