OK, after seeing 2 of my buddies have had their driveshafts break and our SN's are all close together, I am not going another year without replacing my drive shaft even if I have to pay to purchase the parts myself. Has anyone seen or heard of an aftermarket replacement? Or should we be believers in the same old design and believe the story of "bad metal" that the great BRP would have us believe? Getting two sleds out was bad enough!

a few of our fellow riders have an XP and one is still taking chances on his and one has broke, also there have been a few new shafts break, sure would be nice if there was a aftermarket one for everyone!!!

I should have known...

Oh Graveler, I should have known that I would attract your attention with this thread! The shaft stayed free the whole ride out!!!! I tied the ski's up really tight to the back of my XP (hoping that it would take out my drive shaft as well, thus warranty fixing it) and we towed it out the whole way. I figured that we would only get out of the ugly stuff and then strap the skid plate on the track to make it slide the rest of the way out. We only had one issue when trying to cross a creek, that was the only excitement. I was completely shocked that it made it out all 8 miles.

Gravy, Gravy, Gravy......you're going to build up so much bad karma that Fordy is going to be afraid to ride with you next year.
When is he getting home to put you back on the leash? ;):beer;

xp drive shaft fix

Avid products is finishing up on their dual path fix for the Xp shaft. Check out this link www.avid-products.com/dShft.cfm We should be in production shortly. We can supply you with a new shaft or modify yours. I'll know about pricing in a couple of weeks. Call anytime Robbie

Hot Dog!!!

I will ask the same questions that several others are asking:

1. What is the cost?

2. Do you remove the stock ends and re-weld them back on?

3. Where are you to ship the shaft?

I could just call the phone # on the web link, but lets just post some good info here to satisfy curiosity for all readers.

Thanks and lets do 'bidness.:D

Xp drive shaft Mod

We are putting a hollow shaft inside the stock Ski Doo shaft. We are rosette welding the stock shaft as specified by Ski Doo. The additional shaft is rosette welded and then welded at each end. This is a fail safe design. The stock Ski Doo welds can let go on the chain case side and the new shaft will carry the load to the clutch side. With the stock drive shaft all the power has to go through one set of welds on the chaincase side to turn the drivers, now the power can be split evenly on both sides. See picture. I'm thinking the machined part will be $75 and if you want us to install it another $75. You can send you shaft to Avid Products, 3656 East Lakeshore, Whitefish, Montana 59937. Our phone in the lower 48 is 1 866 666 AVID and for the rest of you 1 406 862 6296.

If I read this correctly, the machined part is $75 then if you install and weld it, it is an additional $75, is that correct?

Sounds like you have on heck of a dealer scratley! I wonder if this is something the dealer is going "above & beyond" on or if BRP is instructing the dealers to handle these issues in this matter?

Thanks,
-John
