XP cutting out

I was riding with a friend of mine yesterday in the snowies. He has a new XP. After about two hours of riding his sled started to cut out. It would primarily do it when climbing in powder. The powder wasn't all that deep. The sled would run good at half throttle but if you put it to the bars it would run alright for a minute and then almost die. It would stall so hard it would try to throw you over the bars. If you tried to take off at full throttle it wouldn't go. He has had this problem before. He took it into his dealer and they cleaned the clutchs and said that should fix it. Besides a new dealer what could be happening?

Check the DPM hoses. If the hose falls directly of the carb it will be ok off the bottom end but will puke fuel as you get close to pinning it, eventually causing it to run on one cylinder.

But mine has being periodically cutting out on one cylinder. There was some carb updates that mine had on the first service. So I am unsure if this problem is still here.

Could it be something simple as the intake screen covered in ice?

Noticed with mine if running it hard in deep powder, snow would melt and run onto screen and freeze up. Little corner tab on hood seems to help hold ice & snow on screen & prevent it from just sliding off.

I'm the second guy I know that had the choke get bumped on some how and with all the snow on the machine it was not appearant.

I have seen a few guys reporting issues very similar, the most common problem so far has been with the carbs. either metal or glass beads from manufacturing plugging circuits, or float screws that have backed out causing hard starting and flooding at WOT. the other was broken rave valves, both would be a good place to start looking IMO....good luck.

Carb heaters on or off? I haven't had that problem with the Xp that I'm riding. Throttle did stick at WOT the other day. But the carbs were frozen.

Cleaned your clutches,,,,,, What? Take it to the dealer in Loveland. If it's A BOG.... It's caused by the carbs being put together wrong,,, in Mexico. There is a fix. There is also a wire that can short out. Maybe something simple like carb ice. Turn the carb heat on. Like he said,, maybe just the intake clogging. But it isn't the the clutches..
