Riding my new xp today and it started cutting out on one cylinder, then it would come back on all of the sudden with more throttle. This lasted for about 10 miles and now it is running ok. Any ideas? I think it would be electrical and not fuel. Thanks for any help
Could be several things. I fought a similar problem on my 08 and have narrowed it down to carbs or the relay between the airbox and the oil reservoir. If the relay is not making contact it will not allow the DPM to compensate and it goes full rich and runs like $#@$%. Next time it happens check to see if your headlight and/or speedo are not working either as this relay controls them also. The DPM solenoid could also be sticking, this is a problem on the 09's. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info, I did look at the gauges while it was happening and they were working just fine, I dont know about the headlight but the guys I was riding with didnt say anything about it. I did notice that my plug on the clutch side had some oil on the outside of it but I couldnt tell where it came from. I changed plugs just to make sure they were not the problem and they were not.
Thanks, Ceder
A few guys on DT have posted a problem with the DPM having corrosion in the valve and sticking. They have soaked it with WD 40(or your preference), cycled it with a 9v or 12v battery, cleaned, installed it and that solved the problem. Good luck.
We've seen them get wet and freeze over night. They would run good them bad acting like running on one cylinder. Pull it out, and see if it is soaked also water will be inside of air box from this.
if so simply dry it, and the they will work fine again.
keep it simple.
dpm is doubtful they either fail or work!
It is located right behind the secondary clutch in front of the black air box that is attached to the carbs. Unclip the box from the air intake tube, pull it towards you and it will slide it out. This will give you access to the solenoid. It is silver, you can't miss it once you know where to look.
Thanks for everyones help, I will go try these things right now. I have about 130 miles on my sled now and I really like it. I think its the best sled I have ridden.
