XP Clutch, what's that gunk in the arm bushings

Well, every time I open my primary to add more weight I find at least one clutch arm somewhat tight and before re-assembling, I have been spraying with brake cleaner and the arms free up. I have greatly improved clutch performance with filling the rollers with weight but I am realizing that the most noticable thing now is the proper shifting after cleaning. Yesterday we went to Fernie and enjoyed hip deep fresh powder. About 4 hours in we jumped back on the trail and my I noticed that my clutch was resisting shifting out unless I rode really aggresively and reved it and rode fast. The pre-clutching vibration was back too, it felt terrible. I just got out of the garage now after pulling the clutch apart and 2 arms were tight. I pulled it right apart and the bushings were full of gunk and the pivot pins had a build up on them. I used WD40 and very fine emery cloth on the pins and :light:cleaned the inside of the bushings as best as possible. I expect I gave them a bit more clearance with the emery cloth. It feels great now, see how long it lasts? I hear no lube is necessary, anybody else have this problem or use some kind of lube anyway?

Welcome to Ski-doo

The crappy TRA bushings has been an issue since 06, 07 was the worst, and the 08 seems to jsut as bad

06- TRA 5, i like this one the best
07 - TRA 7, this one had the most issues, tight tolerance
08 - TRA 8, now the two halves are tapered vs a spine shaft.....i dont understand why they did this, but whatever

The very first thing you must do to a TRA is clean clean clean clean, and then clean the hell out of the Arm bushings the second/third/forth ride.....the
preservative crap they put in it seems to migrate as time goes on and eventually is completely removed after you clean clean clean

What I like to do?
-Take a bore brush for a pistol cleaning kit and scrub the hell out of the bushing in each arm, its best to put the arm in a vise
- Blow some shop air in the TRA after each ride to remove belt dust
