hey there guys,
so i decided to try and rebuild my 597cc XLT that blew up last year. never rebuilt a 2 stroke motor before, just a briggs and stratton in highschool shop, so i thought id post and make sure im not doing anything wrong.
engine im taking top end out of was running, then lost half of its power and couldnt figure out what was wrong for the longest time, turned out to be the crank went way out of phase. cylinders look good far as i can tell, pistons has some minor scratching on them, i'll post pics later...
scored a new(used) bottom end from a guy in town here. he thinks it should be good to go but he thought it might be worth doing the oil seals, can they be done without splitting the case?
the bottom end he gave me has been sitting around in his shop for a while its from a motor that seized from waterpump failure, seems to be free and tight and smooth turning is there anything i should check before i start building that up or should i just clean it up and build it up?
other than that i was going to hone the cylinders, buy new seals and pistons and rings, and toss it together according to my service manual....
any words of wisdom or any advice at all anything you think i should know related to this project please let me know, like i said first 2 stroke rebuild i've done, thought it would be a good project on days off from sledding
oh and i have the 1996-1998 polaris service manual with all the torque specs and patterns
thanks for reading guys
