I got my hands on a complete XCR800 (2002) engine and... absolutly everything around it. In fact, I've got the whole sled... But the chassis is non usable (no registration) and ... Seat is scrap and probably have unusable controls on handlebarr as it all sat oustide for... 15years !!!
now: i cant find an "affordable" 1999-2003 XCR800 that would miss the engine and "this-that" ... But have decent chassis and papers.
So... I'm turning my mind in transplanting the engine, clutch, drive and whatever needed... in a different but as similar as possible sled!!
Since i'm in no rush... And I wish to have a "top notch" trail-sled at rhe end of the road, reliable and no money-pit setup... I'm now wondering wich sled should i choose?
I'm curently leaning on 01-02-03 "Classic/Touring" ... since it's a relatively affordable Gen2... But... I'm wondering if some "dark areas" would appears only after the last bit of it would be dismantled ? like... where i'd be stuck in a dead-end of fit or.. having to keep a less than desirable "smaller" part ... where the "bigger" part from the xcr800 woulnt fit???
I'm also looking at the (quite rare) Triumph... Since it's 3 cyl.(and Gen2) but... rare = $$$ and... unless i do find a quite beaten-up one... It will be non-sence to modify a one-year-only model that would th loose it's value??
Maybe Gen2 SKS?? 600 and/or 700?
I think some adventurous crafrman have done the XcR80 engine in newer "edge" chassis... I'm quite able mecanic myself... but... I'd rather choose the "easy path" ... AND... I'm looking for a TRAIL sled... Low C.G. and less than more susp. travel. Utility and lookwise. So... Unless i missed something... I think the Edge chassis would be of no benefit for ME (and just more work/$)
Any input are welcome !!!
Sorry for my soso english... I'm french-speaking... tks.
