WTF is wrong with my idle?

I know I dont have to remove the wires from the plug to test it, but if I am going to replace The TPS harness I will need to remove the pins from the plugs.. ;) I just have a spare wiring harness here so I am testing on it before I go into the one on the sled.

Are you planning on using the Polaris replacement tps harness? If so it comes with a new plug, all you have to do is cut the old one off and splice in the new one, no wire removal needed. Maybe I'm just not understanding what you're tryin to do:confused:, but the tool you're lookin for is called a terminal removal tool. I got mine from Snap-on and it came in a kit with several different tools for diff connector styles. You might check an auto parts store like Napa or somethin. I do alot of automotive electrical work and those terminals can be a PITA even with the right tool.

What I was going to do is test the wires from 1 plug to the other.. if everything checked out fine, I will leave it alone.. If there is an issue, I would buy the updated harness and put it in.. Figured the updated harness would be the TPS plug, 3 wires and the wire with the connecter pin ends that you would just put into the ECM plug, but would require the old connections removed from that plug. If the updated harness is just new wire with the same TPS plug on it, why would I spend the money on the updated one when I can just use some good wire and splice it into the existing harness?? You are saying the new updated harness does not come with the pins connected that push into the ECM plug? Just trying to make sure I understand correctly..

Thanks for the info on the tool..I will see what I can find..

The updated replacement harness is the tps plug with the 3 wires installed with about 8 inches of wire coming out of the plug that you splice into the original harness. It's not the whole wire from the tps to the ECU. The wires coming out right at the tps plug are where the common breakage occurs so there is generally no need to replace the entire length of the wires, and if you wanted to just put in some new wire, you would have to remove the wires from the tps plug, remove the terminals from the wires and solder the old terminals to the new wires. Or try and find some new terminals to go on the new wires. For most people it's way easier to just buy a $23 harness connector and splice it in than go through the headache of replacing the wires in the old connector, follow me?

Yea, I understand what ya mean..might be cheaper to buy the wire, but the hassle would be a headache..:D.. I will check these out and go from there...

1 thing I did forget to mention after todays findings are it will still not kick into reverse at all.. just dies.. TPS is set correctly..

Thanks for all the help so far everyone!!:D

Ok here is the latest.. still have not time to check the harness completely, but I started the sled and let it run for a bit.. still running fine, I unplugged the TPS completely.. didnt really hear any change in the way it ran at all.. The check engine light came on.. I let it run for a few like this.. then when I plugged it back in, it seemed to smooth out the idle a little.. Reverse is still a no go.. just dies.. If the harness is bad, wouldnt the check engine light come on?
