To our valued Customers,

As you maybe aware, the National Weather Service has issued a Hurricane Warning due to the projected path of Hurricane Gustav. Gustav is expected to enter the Gulf Coast within the coming days. Although we cannot predict the impact of the actual storm, we do know that this act of nature will impact the transit times, service levels, as well as increase the costs associated with delivering your freight.

In order to cover the unavoidable expenses, Swift will implement a $1,000 “Hurricane Surcharge” on any incremental business that is picked up or delivered in the affected area. All freight bills incurring this charge will be clearly marked.

We would like to apologize for sending this notification out universally rather than meeting with you personally, however, due to time constraints; we were left no other alternative.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your sales associate, or your Customer Service Representative.

Thank you,

Swift Transportation

What's next... a frickin "Snow Surcharge" for the northern half of the US? Just another way for someone to take advantage of a natural disaster (before it has even happened) mind you.

This almost sounds illegal. BS that they are taking advantage of people for a storm that hasn't even happened yet.

What a joke. I know some guys charge a $20 chain up fee in our area so $40 for a chain up and down. I would never do that it's part of the job if you ask me and on average we can chain up and down 12 time a day but most times it's only 6 times.
