WR vs YZ 450

How much $ does it take to get a WR to run like a YZ? I'm talking about 13' and newer bikes. I'm coming off of 13' KTM 450sxf and thinking about trying something new.

It will cost you more then just finding a new KTM, or just get a YZ. The wr's work but the wide ratio tranny definately hinders really hard tree riding. also just the mellow power nature takes enough money to mod towards a YZ that I guess I dont see the point in it. Just get a race style bike and enjoy it!

You can't. I tried.
I had a WR450F that I stripped down, YZ timing, YZ pipe, etc.. still weighed a friggen ton and didn't have the YZF snap. Now I have same year YZ450F that I put WR450F 1st and 5th gears into the tranny, and a 35W RickyStator into it for lighting. Totally happy with it.

Why would you ditch your KTM?? wait and get the new Factory Edition 450, it is going to be the ticket IMO.

The Wide Ratio tranny is going to screw you out here in the tight woods. Just go buy a new YZ (14 or newer) if you want to make the jump to blue.

Underpowered compared to the 14+. Yamaha made some great motor changes in 14 and those years really pull hard. 13 isn't so bad and you can make some modification to a few things to help it along.... but with the price of a new YZ dipping below $7K late season I would just get the right one.

2016 YZ450FX will be a great bike. I'm excited to see just how good it is. Blue is becoming very enticing. The '14-'15 YZF450 is a stellar bike. Big difference over the '13's.

Assuming we all could buy one, which would you choose?---
2016 Yamaha 450FX with EFI, e-start, 6 speed close ratio and YZ450 power; OR
2016 KTM 450 XC/SX that's all-new and 10 pounds lighter, but it's a 5 speed?

Hmmmmmm. That's a dilemma.

Makes sense, I would be curious to ride the newer version. I ask because I have a 2010. Stock I didn't exactly like the power, it just wouldn't rev and pull hard at upper rpms. But after I put a MRD slip on and modified just with the simple GYTR tuner the thing is so entirely different I wonder how it compares. It went from having too much traction on hill climbs and I couldn't keep the front end down, and zero top end, to now I can spin the tire like I need to and get it right up things I couldn't before, while having the thing at the rev limiter with good solid power. If that makes any sense.

Still find I want more power though, reason I won't be using it for a snow bike.

Personally I have never enjoyed my time on KTMs. Would love to try the new YZFX, but at the same time would prefer something lighter. Where is our 6 speed close ratio 500cc two stroke with a headlight? (oh and Estart for you lighter folks)
