I have not had to rent for years but from time to time with break downs you never know. Talking with 4 guys at the bar that flew in and rented last weekend they said rent was running them 260.00 a day!!! I was shocked:face-icon-small-sho I know sleds have blown right past the 10k mark so I guess its justifiable?? But for these guys 4 days of riding just rent is 4100 bucks!!! At what point are we just pricing it out of reach for new riders?

So whats rent running in your area?

I don't know how much it is around MN but we looked into it in MT and WY and it was about 250/day. Give or take if you wanted an 800 which we would have to get. The 600 and two ups were less but not something we are interested in.

Are we including Ins. to or no? Paid 199/day/5 days for 800 pro @ Tog in Feb. Then another 45/day for ins with 1500 deductible.
I actually was a bit surprised it wasn't more. The rates were the same as they were when I was last there in ' 09.
Edit: This rate also included gas and oil fill up everyday..

Sled rentals in the Black Hills run around the $150 plus or minus, however most are 500-600 class trail sleds. Most are new to 3 year old sleds but if If you get lucky you could end up with a 2002 ZR that comes complete with a hammer (free of charge) to fix the sticky clutch.

Just spent 3 days riding in west yellowstone at $160/day for the 800's. Decent deal if you ask me.

I had to rent last year in West Yellowstone (2012 Proclimb 8) and some places include the gas and some don't. I paid like $170 a day and that included the gas/oil. Sometimes the hotels get a little better deal through the rental places and they SOMETIMES will give that discount to the guest. I know that for sure because a buddy used to manage a hotel out there. I'm shocked how much insurance is on newer sleds so im not surprised rent is high and I'm sure the deductible will be higher than the past few years.

I'm getting to the point where renting is cheaper than owning. I used to go out 4 times/yr and put 800-1000 miles a year on a sled. The nearest mountain riding for us is the Snowies 12 hrs away. I refuse to ride an IA ditch so don't need a sled back home. The last few years with age, conflicts, and having some riding partners move I'm only getting 1-2 trips a yr in.
I've gone from 4 mountain sleds when the kids were still home to 1 and it's for sale. I can rent a sled for 2 days just from insurance $$ saved. Now throw in the fuel savings of not pulling a trailer and depreciation.
I'm sure there will be disadvantages to renting. One of the biggest may be availability if you want to just pack and go on a short notice.
I just wished I lived closer to good riding so I could put 1000 miles a yr on and justify ownership.

Whistler snowmobile: $300.00 per day for a 2012 600 XP etec. No insurance available. They were able to let my brother use a beacon and probe for the day as well.

In Island Park, ID between Christmas and New Years, I believe the 2012 Polaris 550 RMK trail was $125 per day.

One other BIG cost savings for rentals is no tow rig or trailer, no 1500-2000 miles trip and wear and tear on said rig, gas for travel, 2 days out of the trip for travel instead of riding, possibility of a break down on trip, time to prep all the sleds before the trip and prolly several things I haven't thought of. Our last trip from Seattle to Alpine took almost 20 hours(normally 13-15) because the roads were icy door to door. Should have just flown in and rode Dan's Pros that time.

$400 a day to rent a snowmobile in f'in Fernie??? Holy moses I am in the wrong biz?!

Everything is over priced in Fernie nowadays. I grew up there and we used to ski at the hill before it became a destination. Llift passes were like $10 and there was one double chair and a tbar.

If you think 300-450 a day is expensive I invite you to start a rental business, where guys thrash your sleds, and you got to fix, repair service and take care of them, I watch Ray from Totally Awesome Adventures run his business and most days he is up at 5am loading, gassing up and taking people out, then upon his return while we are drinking beer he is fixing, repairing, unloading and getting things ready for the next day! He is a machine and most people could not do what he does for a whole season while riding everyday! One belt blown by someone doing something stupid is $184.00 out of pocket...rental business is hard, and every penny they make is due to their hard hard work!

Every expense you just mentioned is either covered by insurance or is charged directly to the customer (or both)....still sounds very profitable to me! But bottom line is the market drives the prices, if people will pay companies will (and should) charge. People work very hard and long at all sorts of jobs these days no pity here, more power to ya if you love it!

Rentals ?

I have never rented but get a lot of calls for it.

I have looked and it looks like it about 200 in my area not always new sleds. So we are looking at doing some next year but with a twist we are going to rent 2 stock sleds and 2 BDX Pro Lites at double stock rate whats you thoughts about being able to rent a non stock sled?

For you that do not know what a Pro lite is. We take a new cat take over 60Lb off it put a 900 in it and its a pull the rope and go custom sled. Sold over 20 this year and they love them.

I look at kind of like this I have some customers that spend 20K on a sled and only ride it at the most 2 weeks of the year and then they have to store it and maintain it. Its still 5600 a year but no towing or other expense.
