Would I like the 600?

Well my efforts to be able to test ride a pro this season have failed as of yet (stupid work schedule, makes things hard.) And now the local dealer has sold the demo sleds.

Anyways, I have been wondering about the new 600. I'm currently on a m7, it has some goodies (see below) but not really any horsepower making ones. I really like my sled and for me it is a better fit then my husband's m8. Power wise, I don't need a ton. I'm light and not a big time hill climber or anything but every once in a while I find myself wishing I had a touch more. For example hitting a jump pinned and not being able to go as far as I wanted. Having to turn out on a hill that I kind of wanted to make etc.

But the m7 is getting some miles on her and I would like to have something that is reliable as my husband's m8 just in a slightly toned down lighter form.

Just wondering your thoughts on this.

I loved my old 2008 Polaris 600 and I love my new Pro. I can honestly say that I can't imagine it not being an amazing sled. That 600 is so peppy and reliable. My old one has 3500 miles on it without so much as a glitch. Definitely a solid choice if you ask me.

Steph, you know I am as much of a Cat guy as anyone, but the M can't compare to this chassis when it comes to climbing. Boondocking-wise, I could make my M go anywhere the Pro goes, but it just takes a little more elbow grease. I'm thrilled with my Pro so far. Only question is, what do you do with that tattoo?

I think the 600 pro is going to suprise alot of people this year. Everybody knows that the pro gets up on the snow better than anything else out there. Then throw a bullet proof 600 cfi in it and hold on. I bet power to weight wise the pro 600 and your m7 will be close. The only way to really find out though is to try one. I took the plunge this year with the pro 800 and the only time i've looked back is to see how many of my friends are stuck. Good luck with your decision.

I think it will be an amazing sled! Heard from a first hand source it has a new motor in it. Should be great.

HAHA good thing it was marker.

About how much differance in price has the 600's been to the 800's?

Historically price difference of approx. 1,500 or so, time will tell. As stated above new sled should be a rocker, the 600 CFI 2's really go & dependable. Don't overlook '09 shift rmk (and later models) they're good slicing & dicing all day long.

Steph,

The 600's are overachievers IMO.

The shorter stroke of the 600 makes it noticeably more nimble than the 800... I like Polaris' description of a 250 compared to a 450 bike... but the power difference is not as big in the sleds.

Are you going on any of the ladies rides... I guarantee you will find one of the gals has an 800 to let you try out.... OR Rent one somewhere for a day.

I think you will like the PRO-chassis very much if you get a chance to get accustomed to the difference in feel. But it IS different feeling for sure...give it some time.

Not to be Debbie Downer....

My wife and I live in Dayton and had a chance to ride them last week.
Here is my opinion (post #14)
You sound like you are fairly aggressive as well and my wife liked the sled a LOT, just not enough to drop to the 600 from a 700. I know the numbers say power to weight, it doesn't matter. But it did!
But dont get me wrong, my PRO chassis is by FAR the best sled I have had yet!

hmm

Overachiever or not, I asked my wife if we should get her the 6, she looked at me funny and said, HELL NO! So, that was that!

another take

She's on an 8 and I'm on an 8, so in the words of a legend, If you can't make it everywhere I do, it won't be the sleds fault!

Thanks for the advice everyone! Lots to mull over.

That's what I'm worried about, Sleddogg. I guess I really want to keep at least the same amount of hp or go a bit bigger.

I was planning on snow-checking a sled this year but if I'm still seriously considering the 600 I will probably wait to ride one in the fall first.

Lol, I have no pride issues when it comes to riding the smaller cc sleds. Don't care what people think, just want what works for me. I have no issues keeping up with the boys on my current sled so that's not problem ether.

I'm hopefully going to be able to ride with a pro on the 5th-6th of March and by then cat will have released their sleds. So I guess just more thinking and waiting till then. Thanks again!

I am not a big horsepower maniac, but it sounds like you would be just fine on an 800 too. Unless you specifically want a 600. I would rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it. Even in the 800 form, that chassis is really nimble as well. Sounds like a good problem to have though!

The 600 in the RQ was silly FUN. I can just imagine what the 600 in the PRO will be like. I was at Bear last weekend for the demo tour but did not get a chance to ride one. I heard they were not pulling full RPM's and were a little soft.

They will not have the torq of your M7 but power to weight is going to make these sleds fun. Add an SLP pipe kit and it should be in the 130HP ball park and still be super reliable.
PS: I have an 800 PRO and it is very nimble.

I will say if they are $1500 less I will be ordering one for a spare sled.

You should definately try to get a quality extended demo ride on that PRO..I think coming from an old M7 you'll be thrilled with the giddy up no matter what sled you buy. HP rated what ever means absolutely nothing. The PRO will kill an old stock M7 even though the manufacturers claim different HP ratings.

Also it's going to be very interesting what Cat unveils for 2012. I hope it's in the game with the PRO handling and weight wise. That would be really good for all of us!

I also hope they (2012 PRO 600) are 2 gisel less..back up smack up...my OUTSTANDING 2011 800 PRO will be FOR SALE! You guys ever hear of a Carl's 660 big bore? mmmmmmmMMMMMmmmmmm

You should talk with Powdergirl, I believe she use to rally 600 that she turn into a 660 and is running a 800 Pro now and would like her 660 back... she might have good intel.
