Woods & Steel to Whistlin Jacks Distance?

We enjoy riding out of woods n steel and saw another earlier post regarding riding from woods n steel all the way to whistlin jacks.

That looks like quite a haul when you paste all the sno park maps together.

Has anyone here actually done that ride and how far is it one way and is it well marked?

Do-able on a tank of gas (yes, we'd carry spare just in case)? I know you can fill up again when you get to Jacks for the return trip.

It sounds like a real fun cross country trip...anyone done it??

Thanks!

done it many many times

It's about 50 to 55 miles depending on the route, the groomed route does go all the way thru but its confusing, you have to get over to buck meadows and than east on the manastash road than right on the 1701 road over to the jacks side, it's marked but I'm not sure how well, I usually cut off at buck meadows and go up to the manastash jeep trail , thru tri pod flats , down the devils slide area to milk pond. it's shorter and more fun. You can make it with out carrying gas no problem. Probably would be best to go with someone familiar with one of the routes for the first time.

X2 on Jet's reply. Rode the long way the 1st time (out closer to Quartz before you double back) and ever since through Tripod and over the hill. Easy trail to follow, however breaking trail takes having done it a few times. It is only about 5 miles cross country to connect from Tripod to Devils and down to Milk Pond. Found my own way via USFS maps the 1st time, GPS makes it much easier.
Enjoy.

52 miles - Thru Buck Meadows, Tri-Pod, Devils Slide
57 miles - Buck Meadows, Barber Springs, Bald Mtn, Devils Slide
72 miles - Buck Meadows, Barber Springs and the all groomed rte on the 1701 & 1705.

(Buck Meadows (Rd 31) AND Walther Springs Rd. are the same distance)

Excellent info from all, thank you.

Sounds like a definite GPS route planning will be necessary.

Im pumped though, this sounds like a really fun ride. :face-icon-small-coo
