Wood Basements, pro's and con's

I wouldn't try to compare lumber from 30 year old houses to what's available today. There is no comparison, today's wood sucks. I replace windows for a living, and the younger ones have way more rot issues than the older ones that I replace. I would never want a house with wood exposed to soil.

Looks like I will be going with the poured walls. After much discussion with various builders and engineers, looks like if you have a wood basement with a walkout you have to run supporting walls every 12'. No thanks, that would defeat the purpose of a nice open living area in the basement. Heck, it is only money anyway

I have been back filling mine and hope to finish this weekend. 95 yards in the footings and walls...the floors will be about 35 more.
