Wolf Hunting Idaho

JOKE ALERT:

I keep shooting them with 220 swift, FMJ's. They keep running off. I look and I look, but never seem to get one.

Next year I'm going to looking into upgrading my rifle with something with more killing power. I'm thinking 223 with FMJ.

I'd think about using some of those exploding bullets you read about on the media sites, but that seems inhumane.

55 wolf tags have been filled in Idaho. I hope they reach the 220 mark, I also hope there are a lot of wolf kills not being reported. I am just glad somebody is seeing these dogs cause I still haven't seen one and its not from lack of being in the mountains.

Been hearing a lot of discouraging hunting stories lately.... heard one story where two bow hunters hung an elk at camp they had just got, then went out and came back to wolves standing them off. Had to leave and hike back to their vechicle to get their guns (cause you cant carry a gun while bow hunting) and scared them off with shots fired in the air when they got back (the bastards were still there!). Suposedly the Alfpha male sat above them on the hillside and watched them for quite some time. Wonder if they were being teritorial or just wanting to eat that elk?

Also know of many more hunters who saw more wolves than the big game they were hunting. Seems like you better get a wolf tag along with your big game tag b/c that might be all your able to shoot at!

wolf do they eat good

I think you are safe on the 220...third reported this afternoon. Get this they just announced the federal trapper bounty kill and livestock protective authorization on the two trouble juvies over in Keating, Oregon. People this is historical!

Dreaming a little now. I could in theory actually take one Idaho tagged and participate in the depredation of two more this very weekend! Wouldn't that be something? Starting tomorrow there won't be a pickup or tractor in all of Keating without a high power rifle on board. FINALLY

F-Bomb can you get out of state tags for them big dogs, might be a good reason to get to gether.

If you've ever seen southpark...

"Look out, hes comin' right for us!!" If it had been anyone in my family, that pack would have been a bit smaller, and no one would have heard a word about it.....

Saw a wolf while dirt biking last weekend right outside of Donnelly, Idaho (on the ridge between the highway and Gold Fork river) - he was running a little ways down the hill but parallel to us for a bit.

You sure on not packing a side arm while archery hunting? I know many that do. Way I had it explained to me is because if the right to bear arms they cannot make a law that keeps you from having a packing a side arm while archery hunting.

I'm not sure myself - this is what I had another hunter tell me. I have been told it's legal in other states - mabye someone on here knows for sure? These guys were not packing firearms though and I would think that anyone in their right mind would out in the backcountry would be packing firearms unless the law prohibits it.

Anyone know the law on packing firearms while bow hunting in Idaho? (Guess we could try and google it.)

I'll see if I can find an answer to it. I know the carry law in Idaho says that you can legaly carry a pistol as long as it is in the open except in areas designated that you cannot, IE schools banks and I think courthouses. I'm 90% sure that it is legal to pack a side arm during the archery hunt. Would be crazy to not pack one IMO. I have a .45 for that very purpose.

Suitcase...the fun bus leaves in the morning. You'll need to hurry! Fishin...huntin, and drinkin...like Zac Brown says...life is good today!

We only have 7 more to go as of today in our "spot" :D. My tag is a fish and feathers donation but you know if you don't get a tag you'll see one for sure.

Since nobody is smoking any WUFF DOGS we'll keep this thread alive with other outdoor Idaho activities...

Suitcase...just got back Friday night from another test but this time at Riggins. I wanted to see if two people in a plastic bathtub could catch a 3 foot long torpedo and live to tell about it! CHECK OUT MEGAN"S FIRST STEELIE. IT"S A SHE MONSTER...had to be a challenger in the hatchery fish derby but I screwed up and gutted it before I even new what the rules were! Dang-nab-it! Only a couple near death experiences throughout the trip. Megan thought the entire float was a near death experience...I was only scared a couple of times.

Anyway..keeping that bathtub fishing and upright for two days is EXCELLENT pre-sledding conditioning. Holy blistered hands and swollen surgically repaired shoulder!
