hey guys I've heard that you can just cut your big windshield to whatever size or shape you want.... I have thought about doing this but i am not sure if i want to wreck a new windshield. people say that you can just use a exacto knife or a razor to cut it to the shape or size you want and then buy some little piping to go around the top so it is no longer sharp. will this work?

thanks for any help!!

Have done this many times! Especially for the kids when they rode only lite gt's with the huuuuge windhields. Can't buy a shorty for those, and can't see through them when it ices up so dad had to get creative. A rotozip works great to cut them. You can usually just pop the trim off the piece you cut off and reuse is and use 5minute epoxy to stick it back on your new modded windshield. Great part about doing this is you can leave the outside edges a little high and keep the hands warmer, while still getting it lower in front of you. Good luck.

cutting windsheild

My Brother cut his down on his 01' rmk just above the accessory bags with a razor blade/sheetrock knife that he heat up with a small torch. Really clean cut and then he re-applied the trim. Oh and he also wanted it black, so he spray painted the inside and it is still holding up nicely to this day.

yeah, I can't belive people spend 100 bucks on a short windshield. On my old rev we used tape to get a visual and the shape. Tape also gives you an even cut line. Then out came the saws all, or you can use a dremmel tool. Like 2stroke4life said we took off stock trim and pressed it back on. Its a 1 :beer; job.

Yes very easy to do and all my windshields have come off only to give them to the second owner who has it sit in his garage for the duration of the sled ownership. This is the first one I have cut and I think it worked out pretty good. I just used an exact-o and scored it until it cut through and then I could not get my stock rubber piece off so I used some door protector from Canadian Tire.

Paint it black from behind and your set!

Or .. with it that low..ditch the shield. :P

yeah good idea, basically it plugs up the holes that are there if i take it off...beats that huge windscreen sittin in my garage...

Just did mine like Norona. Put it on the miter saw with a slide, just cut the plastic trim piece real slow. Used tape to get the profile I wanted, then used the laser to align, and cut. Took 10 minutes. Took the old trim off the top of the cut windshield, and glued it back on. Looks awesome.

I have cut many with dremmel and I'll have to say it is hard to keep the dremmel under control. Tried a jig saw and saw sall and my fillings are still shaking! But both methods worked. Your can buy car door trim at any auto parts store for the top of the windshield. It even comes in chrome! Easy to work with and cheap if you can't get the original trim off.
