Windows on my Mac?

Ugh, last thing I want to do, but I don't have a choice. Have "classes" I have to complete on a USMC website that was built for Windows. It will not work on a Mac (I've tried 4 different web browsers, and have called the help line).

Anybody have any issues doing this? I bought a Mac to get away from Microsoft, now looks like I've got to load it on here anyway. Planning on using "Bootcamp" on my Mac to partition the HD and load Windows.

Also, seems that Vista is all you can really buy/download and it's $200. Anybody know of any deals?

You can poach a copy of xp from any torrent site (google is your friend if you don't know what that is or how it works). Not quite legal though - but you can go to most any salvation army or similar thrift store and find an old computer that has a COA (certificate of authenticity) sticker still on it for about $15 and use it to activate it (pretty much legal), or you can shell out hundreds to Bill Gates.

I have Win2k installed on my MB for the few apps I need windows for. Works great without the bloat of xp.

Personally I'd recommend Parallels. Lets you fire up the VM without rebooting the machine, and when windows crashes it doesn't take the rest of the computer down with it. Plus you get all the shiny things like shared clipboard (copy-paste works between windows apps in the VM and native Mac apps) and a real good firewall between windows and the rest of the world.

This was what I was going to say. I like that fact that you can launch Windows apps without having to reboot like you would for Boot Camp. You can do all your stuff in OS X and only what you *have* to do in Windows.

I am running Windows 7 (experimental beta) and it is pretty slick. Nicer than Vista. I don't think you can download it anymore though since it is supposed to be out in Sept.

You can still get the Windows 7 release candidate (not beta) through the end of this month I believe. The R.C will be valid till July next year absolutely free. I recommend running this virtually from your MAC. the VMware software is dirt cheap comparitively to purchasing the O.S.

You are right...it's the R.C. I misstated that. Thanks for the clarification. I didn't know it was still available.

I can reboot my mac and have it boot with vista or I can just have xp run as another application when I am running apple software.I think it called vm ware.

VMWare isn't bad, but IMO parallels works better and has a nicer UI. Easier to figure out and set up.
