Anybody in here from there or the area? Curious as to what it's like? How's the sledding and single track in the summer?

It's a nice small town, not too crowded yet. I'm about 15min north. Your looking at south Washington cascades for mountain riding, St. Helens and Adams just a straight shot up I5 to Woodland then east a bit for St. helens.

Bout how far? What are the people like? Whiny leftists or just good down home people. The company has some stuff up there and was just thinking of a transfer

Unfortunately, I think you'll be disappointed compared to Colorado. Wilsonville is the opposite direction from riding when compared to Portland proper. Tack on another 15 mins to get to Mt. Adams so you're a good 2 hours out and probably 1:45 to Mt. St. Helens.
By singletrack I'm assuming mtb accessible? The good news is Black Rock is only about 45 mins away and is the premier, non-lift access, freeride destination in the country. There's also good riding in the coastal range at Brown's Camp and Stub Stewart and LOTS more near Mt. Hood and in SW Washington but all an hour's drive at the least. So... there are a lot of great outdoor recreation areas but you have to drive a ways to get there.

Have FUN!

The whiny leftists are predominantly the lower to middle class that make up Portland proper. The 'burbs are predominantly conservative, thus the fun clashes you can sometimes see downtown during business hours. Wilsonville is a very clean "yuppie" town and is one of the "newer" communities in the Portland area so there are an abundance of cheaper new homes if that's important to you. The better communities in the area are West Linn and Lake Oswego just north of Wilsonville but you'll pay for that too.

Have FUN!

Mt. Adams is a good place to ride, St. Helens is good if the weather is clear. Another spot for MTB riding besides Black Rock is Post Canyon in the columbia gorge by Hood River.

Mt. Hood is where families and short tracks go sledding on the groomed roads. Bend has the wild Bend crowd at Mt. Bachelor and Paulina, that has both families and 20 something hard core types. Oregon sledding is pretty boring ordinarily, unless you have 3 feet of new powder. Anything above 4000 feet is going to have enough snow to sled after Christmas. There are a lot of places to explore with no names and no snoparks in the Cascades, that you just wait for enough snow to keep the ATV's out.

Anywhere between St. Helens and Mt. Adams is where the more experienced sledders tend to go. You can get up to 11,000 feet on Mt. Adams. The reservation on the east side of Mt. Adams, is right out of National Geographic. Any thing north of Carson or Trout Lake, is going to be good. Then there is a lot of powder hills horth of La Grande and east to McCall Idaho.

Lots of good riding a little further south, you just need to get hooked up with the guys who have spent the time to find it. Nothing like not seeing another group or set of tracks the whole day. If your riding from snowparks your riding from the wrong places;)

Wilsonville is basically suburbia urban sprawl Portland. Mostly newer homes and larger developments going up there. With regards to the riding, you are pretty much on the opposite side of portland from the riding. Head north to Mt. Adams or St. Helens. Personally, I dont like wilsonville, its just houses and a fred meyer strip mall.

When are you moving here?

I graduated from wilsonville high. The town has tripled since I was a kid, maybe 20k there now? It's a pretty clean decent little town. I-5 and I-205 is a nightmare, both freeways will be come a parking lot during rush hour. The nice thing is that you do not have the portland hipster/liberal crowd. Heading east or west of town 5 miles and your out in the "country" and it's very nice. Great wakeboarding and waterskiing water on the willamete river that flows through town. The rest of the state is just too awesome to mess with living in the willamete valley, not to metion rain October through June.

Plan on doing A LOT of driving for any good riding. Your closest singletrack would be an hour away, good singletrack a little further. Some good MX tracks near by. Mt Hood is the closest for sledding, but it's trail riding and a clusterfu#k on the weekends.. think skier traffic, and city people who aren't capable of walking in snow let alone driving it.

The best part about the portland and surrounding areas is leaving to a better part of the state.
