Will This Blow Up My Engine!!!???

 Ok so before I start I have read a couple of threads that have calmed me down a bit. The answer seems to be that this is not a problem. Here it is...

I have an 02 Summit 800. The guy I bought it from ran Blue Marble. I couldn't find anyone that stocked Blue Marble here in Ogden. I finally got someone to order it for me (Thanks Patrick:beer; You got my business:D). Here is the problem- I don't yet have the Blue Marble. I went for a ride and ran low on oil. I threw in some Yamalube High Performance that I have for my bike. I was hoping to go out tomorrow and just throw more Yamalube or some other oil in, but a guy at a dealership told me that it could blow up my engine:eek:.

The threads I have read mostly say that no one has had trouble with mixing oil. I wanted to throw out there the two specific oils that I have mixed and see what the response is from all the helpful people on Snowest that have waaaaayyyyy more knowledge than I. What is going to happen to El Fuego (my sled)?

Obviously there will be more experienced guys than I, but when the hubby and I switched from Arctic Cat APV oil to Blue Marble, we didn't empty the old oil from our sleds. We just ran the sleds down on oil, then added the BM to it. We now have over 4000 miles on both sleds.

I don't know anything about Yamaha oil though.......

I myself, would not purposely mix two different brands of oil. It doesn't hurt to change brands as long as you use a good quality oil. Yamalube is good. If you were nearly out of the marble when you added the yami, it should be okay. At this point it should be okay to put more Yamalube in. I would take the Yamalube back out before putting the Blu Mar back in.

Thanks to everyone that is helping:beer; I am feeling much better about riding tomorrow. I am not so sure that the BM was all that low before I added the Yami. It was getting there but could have gone lower. Should I empty and go straight Yami, or even something else?

any thing here

i use whatevers handy in my older sleds. i thnk i have even used 5w 30 for 5 miles in my 809 mach. been running doo smi synthetic in my polaris 1200 and some cat oil also. been running snowmax in my xcr sp.
how many different oil refineries are there anyway? the oils cant be too much different?

I agree. They likely all come out of the same refinery and, like with much of technology, they all use the same stuff but have their own "unique" patent on their "new" technology. So..... Overwhelmingly it seems that if,tomorrow, I blast through the pow that is falling tonight with Yami, Ams, BM, or Wal-Mart, my engine will be there to ride again on Thurs?

When it comes down to it, 2 stroke injection oil is 2 stroke injection oil and nothing bad will happen.

All oils will not always mix. Manufacture's oil can oil change every time the contract with the oil company comes up. It still comes in the same bottle, but could be different oil. The oil manufactures can change the additive package and base stocks with out ever changing the label. When switching oil brands, or when you need to borrow from someone I always reccomend taking a few spoonfuls of each and mix in a paper cup. As long as they don't seperate or do anything odd your fine. Most of the time there is not a problem, but for the few minutes it takes to be sure, I would always check

This is great info. So if no go, it will separate like an Emerald Isle shot.....ummmm....errrr... I mean, Like oil and water. If it is a go all as one:D

You engine will be LESS likely to have problems if you run yamalube instead of BM.....but yes, they are compatible, VERY few oils are not compatible.

why would it matter if the oil mixed together or not...wouldn't it just use the heaviest oil first then other oil once it was all gone?

amen, people get there panties ina wad.. i run what i get, mix match, whatever, if it aint a full on race motor like yours, you would be suprised what they run on!!! i got about 5k mile combined on my 2 sleds with this that and the other, but mainly castrol 2t... the cheapest stuff i can find. doesnt gum, and works great. this isnt like blood for people, if you dont match it right you die.. the sled will keep on.

h2o

im pretty sure i was running almost straight water through mine a couple times. the pod fell off while in lots of fresh. sidehilled for a coupe miles feeding the snow right into the open carb. was running rough? hmm oh well tighten it up try again
