What is everyones thoughts about it? good or bad?

I find it interesting that paypal, visa, and mastercard pulled their ability to receive payments.

Exposing govt cover-ups/lies is one thing when it's done with the intentions of making the US & it's govt better.

That's not the case with this butt monkey.
Assange's intentions are malicious & self serving for his 15 minutes of fame.

Like it or not, there are some things the govt needs to keep secret.

I wouldn't be surprised if "something" would happen to Assange while incarcerated.

I don't know much about him. What is this based on?

True, but sometimes it seems because the situation that they are trying to protect is based on secrets as well.

Wouldn't life be a little easier without secrets? I realize that statement is a little naive, but it seems sometimes the govt spends a lot of money and time getting itself into and out of situations due to secrets.

Also, can we really have a democracy if a lot of the decisions and the reasons for the govt making the decisions are hidden to the majority of the people in the democracy?

We are not a Democracy. Everyone knows we are ran by the Freemasons.....:tape2:

nope, you?

and how is this relevant to the discussion at hand?

Yep. Still am.

The people most directly affected by the leaks are those who every day are being hunted by our enemies. Our enemies are very smart, very well organized, and very deadly. Wikileaks did their intel for them...handed it to them on a platter. They have names of our informants, those who work for us, and those who assist us in killing them. We NEED those people over there helping us. If those people think their name might get out there to the enemy, they won't help, plain and simple.

Also, do you REALLY need to know how many "drone" strikes we've done in Pakistan? Is that vital to you as an American citizen? Does the general public REALLY need to know that in times of war, civilians and non-combatants die? It's a fact of war, and we are very good at minimizing it...it doesn't need to be on the front page of every paper around the world.

The important thing here is that there are things about this country inner-workings and it's wars that you and me don't need to know. Some things are better left to those who can, and do, make the decisions. You and me? Well, we should stick to deciding what kinda Starbucks to have today

Completly agreed. When the secrets will no longer adversly affect the people here or overseas then, and only then should the secrets be released.
Sorry rmksledhead fat finger accidentlly hit the red thumb on you post.

The problem is not wikileaks, the problem is how we let the info get to him in the first place.

I completely agree with your point of view with respect to wars and some stuff about the military, but what about the rest?

I think the more secrets we let the government keep, the more control we give up..

Control of what? You're a sheeple just like everyone else. Don't think that you knowing what's going on in the world is going to change your daily life, it's not. I'm worse because I listen to and do EXACTLY what I'm told, when I'm told to... except for the fact that I raised my hand to defend The Constitution...so at least I'm a sheeple with purpose.

You aren't going to change the fact that we have secrets...nor is some POS foreign rapist who thinks it's his DUTY to see the end of the American empire.

I think that it is OK for the highest level of government to have "cables" amongst themselves pertaining to their dealings with other governments. I don't think YOU need to know what is really happening in Iran, or North Korea, or even in Area51. It won't change your life; it might change mine someday, but then again, I'll just say "when and where, Sir?" and strap in.

2XM3: Whatcha gonna do? Someone has to do the job...he passed the background check and got the correct TS clearance (there are a LOT of levels for a TS clearance). Can't watch all the kids all the time...gotta trust that people who swore an oath will do as they said.

Quite simple, leak top secret stuff...you get shot or hung, maybe the next guy thinks twice before spying. Im to old school for the slap on the wrist ****.

i'm not arguing that. i must have misunderstood your last post. we are in agreement to shoot him.

I keep hearing the word "secrets".....how about we replace it with "security related info."
Everyone has secrets....I mean security related info. Would you like it if someone gave out your locker combination in Jr high? That was a secret.
Would it have been OK if some media source illegally took our military info and gave it to Adolf during WWII??
Unfortunatly we live in a world where it is necessary to have privacy, not some utopia where eveyone is free and no one wants to kill you and take your power and money. That's why we have locks on our doors and keys to our cars....so people don't take what we've worked for. The leaked data is the countries equivalent of our keys and bank account info. Post that "secret" info online and see how it works out for you. :face-icon-small-win

I think some of what he is doing is needed. Our government like almost all governments have a long history of hiding information that needs to be brought into the public's view.

With that said some of what he is doing has crossed the line.

If he is able to find this information, people who want to do harm to this country can find this information. That is concerning. Maybe the U.S. should have better protection of their "secrets".
