Wife says "You're getting an ABS bag" - Which one to buy?

You guys kill me.

50 thousand dollar trucks
20 thousand dollar trailers
15 thousand dollar sleds
ABS airbag system PRICELESS!!!!!!!

Booze, cigarettes, hotels, gas and what ever else you blow money on for the sport and you got the nerve to say 1200 bucks is to much to save your life.......Stay home a couple of weekends and put that money toward a bag.
Open your eyes and give your heads a shake!!!

My wife figured out that my current pack is 20L. I think the 15 or 18 would be perfect. So far, RMX has the best price for us Canadians (thanks sled-fiend!) I guess there are some shipping issues with the nitrogen canister going from the USA to Canada?

I have the 30L and thought it looked big but feels as good or better than my previous smaller pack. I like having my shovel and probe inside the pack.

Um, open your eyes. Not everyone rolls like that. I think if they sold for 500-600 they would sell 10 times what they do now.
If you have to pull the cord you've already screwed up. I think it's the last thing someone should buy. Buy all the normal items and take a course first.

Well guys i just thought i would post this for u guys to look at and think about.. i was really looking at abs pack also since i have a wife and two kids also.. BUT READ THIS WHAT WAS WROTE.. KINDA SCARY SOUNDS LIKE THE GUY DID EVERYTHING CORRECT AND DID EVERYTHING HE COULD THANK GOD HE IS OK.... LIKE I SAID IM NOT TRYING TO PICK FUN OF THE GUY.. BUT JUST TO LET U GUYS ALL KNOW FREAK THINGS HAPPENS AND WANTED TO GET THIS OUT...
GOOD TO SEE HE IS OK BUT SUCKS THAT U SPEND A GRAND ON FAILS AND ALMOST TAKES UR LIFE.. I WOULD NOT BE A HAPPY CAMPER WITH ABS..

Yesterday, three snowmobilers were sitting on the flats below the south face of Crown Butte outside Cooke City. They had their sleds turned off when another rider on an adjacent hill unknowingly triggered the slope above them. They fired up their machines and full throttled out, but one rider’s snowmobile took one pull too many and he lost the race with the avalanche. He was tumbled for 100 yards. He was wearing an ABS airbag pack as well as a beacon. When he pulled the handle of the ABS it broke off in his hand without deploying! As soon as the slide stopped his two partners saw the ski and skid plate of the sled sticking out of the snow, rushed over and found a glove and boot wiggling frantically. They dug him up and the buried rider was ok. Even though they were in the flats, they were exposed to the runout zone of the avalanche path above them. This close call is a reminder to be extra careful since its dangerous to even be near avalanche terrain right now. We are continuing the Avalanche Warning since avalanches are likely and a HIGH danger exists on all slopes in the southern mountains.

Turk, do you know for sure that the handle broke off or did he have the handle incorrectly installed? I have seen where the locking collar on the handle hangs up, and the handle will just pop off. BTW, the guy did NOT do EVERYTHING right as he was parked in a runout area.

The boys and I ride with the 30's and like 'em just fine. Some say the are big, but it is all we've ever known so we are just used to them. I think its like the whole car seat deal, if you kid never had to do it it is a real struggle, on the other hand if its all your kid has ever known its just part of the routine.

We carry enough gear for a couple nights out and some first aid. I feel the stranded risk is worthy of consideration as well as slides. I remember that thread a couple years back where the rider crested a pull and dropped 300+ plus feet off the backside and broke his leg. His buds couldn't get to him and all that saved him was a well planned, well stocked pack. His story (in his own words) left a real impression on me.

A little extra weight is just part of what we do. Hope those of you without one find a way to get one soon. Happy New Year. EW

With all the recent activity, my wife has layed her foot down and wants me wearing one.

Dude. Winnipeg. Get your wife some good binoculars so she can just watch you as you ride all over southern MB....... ;)

Sorry I grew up there.

My wife just mandated one after this last week. I was planning to get one for next season.....but there needs to be a next season first.

I'm not even allowed to take mine off......

I lucked out and one came up local to me here in Edmonton on the swap so I snapped it up.

Good luck on your search for the right bag.

that would be my bet. I have put my pack on and started riding, when I stopped I double checked my handle and noticed that I didn't push it in all the way and it just popped out. Note: always double check that you have a canister in and that the handle is attached correctly!

I pm'd him and it was the bottom circlip that some how came off of the chuck.

i got the freeride, because i dont like anything on my back while riding. It holds water, firestuff, a light pair of glove and goggles. The rest of my stuff i keep in a dry bag on the bacj of my sled...

Freeride

This will be my 5th winter wearing the Freeride with shovel & probe on the out side of the pack with no storage. When I upgrade will go to the Freeride 15 has small amount of storage and it feels a little more comfortable. They work ,saved me from being buried last spring!

Have a safe WINTER!
