Anyone think it's neccessary? I have one that I am rebuilding right now that needs bearings. I have the correct wide bearings for it but am wondering if it's really worth the extra money for this motor. If it was Polaris twin it would get them without a second thought.

I would do it. The PTO bearings can be a nuisance on the 670s. I have 10,000 miles on mine and have put PTO bearings in it twice, however, I asphalt raced it for three years, and have ran the crap out of it out west for much of the rest of its life. So better bearings would be the way to go if it gets some hard use.
