Why the lame extro setup Pol??

So, whats the justification for these goofy extro drivers Pol is using?

I get some ratcheting now n then when hitting jumps and landing under power.
The center holes even show some stress from the drivers.
My track is not by any means loose either.. I don't have any measurements atm, but its definitely a lot tighter than I ran any of my Doos w/ proper extros.

honestly, cut that piece of crap middle extro off of the drive shaft, set it to proper track tension (i use 3/4 of an inch w/ 10lbs, 16" from rear axle), and run it. that thing is the stupidest thing polaris put on the sled. it actually makes the problem worse. IT DOES NOT WORK. sorry for yelling but that is just how it is. good luck.

Same problem. Track is set at proper tension and still ratchets at the worst possible time. Thinking of having avid make me some 2.86 powerclaw drivers for next season.

Ok, after checking today, I may have had a bit too much slack...
I think I measured 3/4 - 7/8" of slack (w/o weight applied).
I put 10# right behind the rear swing arm, ~16" forward of the rear axle.
Set my sag @ 1/2" (with 10# of wt.)
[Manual says 3/8" - 1/2" w/ 10# applied.]

Man this seems super tight....no wonder people have hifax wear issues.

Polaris: Use normal extros and be done with it...stop reinventing the wheel, quite literally in this case.

1/2" is too tight, imo. i set it to 3/4 and have had zero problems. i run a PC so i have 3.0 drivers and i do not run extros or combos, i have NEVER ratcheted. don't waste money on different drivers. just get rid of the center extro, set the tension and don't worry about it. i know it isn't the cool guy way to roll, but you don't need combo drivers. completely unnecessary. and i ride in deep heavy snow so if it was going to ratchet, it would. combo drivers, most anyway, just slow your track speed down.

Pura vida do you have any pics of your set up. I'm looking for a new track and would love to put a powerclaw on my pro. I have one on my 07 d7 and would love to put one on my pro without braking my bank account. Thanks In advance

sorry don't have any pics. pretty straight forward. PC with 8tooth involute drivers in the stock location. (set to run on the internal nubs, not in the windows where a combo would be) i really like the PC, it works for me. can't give you 100% honest comparison though b/c i never ran the 5.1 on this sled. had a cut down 5.1 (f-bombs track mod) and a camo extreme on iq sleds. i'm very happy with the PC although i really like the extreme also. but without a d&r the extreme with 8 tooth drivers would be too tight. i don't like 7 tooth drivers. some would say the PC is also but it seems to work well. would it be "better" with a d&r? idk? anyway, good luck.

drivers

running 3.0 drivers from carls. no extroverts, pc track, no racheting what so ever. and the pc vs stock , pc just keeps on chugging where the stock digs in quick and over backwards you go. stock track worked very well for boondocking and shallower hills.

Thanks for that info. This is going to be my off season mod. When i did the power claw on my d7 it seemed to climb better in our snow here on the east coast. The 5.1 goes ok in powder but not so well in hard spring snow. Any thoughts on the assualt track for spring riding.

was looking at mine today, is there enough room between the drivers and the tips of the rails to run extroverts, something like cats??? looks like they'd hit dead into the tips of the rails...

no. there is not enough room. to run combos you have to cut your rails and more than likely you should add an anti stab kit. another reason not to run combos

Ok, no that is the logic I'm looking for.
Now it makes more sense, and is actually almost an intelligent design, just poorly implemented.

it really doesn't. do a search for rob's (f-bomb) tack mod in the iq section. detailed description there. good cheap mod for those that don't want to buy a PC.

How did this trim and screw mod effect the 5.1 performance in the powder?

I rode in 24" of new with it this last weekend and I'd say the triming had no effect. The track and sled did very well. I will say that I do now see the need for some venting both for the clutches and for more ways to get air to the motor.

I really think the 3/8 to 1/2 inch is the way to go when adjusting the track tension. I ran my D8s track loose and I noticed when my friend rode it the drivers forced the track straight down, it wasn't a little either I'm taking 3 to 5 inches. IMO it ruined the attack angle making it trench worse and it will not get on top of the snow as fast.

I have always been convinced to run the track a little tighter than factory specs.

I rarely get any ratcheting that way.... and don't have any hyfax wear.... as long as you remember to use your scratchers, even on short trail runs.
