? why not more diamond s hoods??

how come more people aren't running the diamond s hood? i'm thinking about putting an aftermarket intake my on my 09 m1k so it doesn't bog in the deep and also adding vents. by the time i get a quality intake system (200 to 300 dollars) and additional vents (50 to 100 dollars) i'm a couple hundred bucks away from a diamond s hood that basically has an aftermarket intake and the best venting you can have. Plus, you dont have to ruin your stock hood and cut up your belly pan. so, besides having to plug the gap on the rear of the hood where it doesn't seal that great, why aren't more people running this hood? is it too good to be true? weight loss, awesome intake set up and the best venting possible!

i'd also like to see some pics of people running this hood with the stock intake box.

its fugly, and not the best choice for people riding in thick trees and brush

Ds hood

The back of the hood is no big deal just let it be there is not that much if any snow that gets in there the front of the hood needs some help i put some 1/8 rubber strip to keep the snow out of the nose they get alot of snow in the nose with out it and i was getting water in the air box other than that they work awsome. And they look cool on the m sleds to

yep they do work awesome....they pay for themselves as well...your belts last much much longer because of the cooler running..i run the timbersled intake on mine so i as well plugged the nose...i use 3/4 pipe insulating foam...works well

it's so annoying when people act like they ride in the trees SOOOO thick that they can't have any mesh! even when you see the vids on youtube of burandt and bret, they never run into branches that are SO thick that they would penetrate a mesh hood and if they aren't runnin into that kind of brush, i doubt 99 percent of us on here are either. so with that aside, does anyone run this hood with the stock air box? i dont wanna get into a fuel box or anything so i'm thinkin about this hood, stock air box and my can. any pics anyone?

Diamond S makes a hood for the m air induction system that all you have to do is hook the flex hose to it. I ran it with mine until I went with the timbersled setup and then turbo.

the biggest reason i dont use one is cost, but after the last couple seasons and learning to love the trees i dont think it would last long. i installed frogskins on my nose vents about half way through the season last year and they needed replaced after a couple rides, i've had to replace the intake vents by the headlights a couple times and the nose cone and front of the a-arms are all green from tree bark. so i must be in the 1 percent of people that do get in the real tight trees, sure i run over more trees than i probably should but its fun to play in the fresh snow that nobody else dares to go to.

geez I ride trees that are so thick the sun never sees the ground and I run a mesh hood. I don't make a habit of steering into jousting poles........they do put steering on a sled for a reason:beer;

If it's such a heavy branch it has just as much of a chance to pierce your body. I ride trees and have no issues with my Diamond S hood. Their very tough and well worth their ridiculous price.

this is true, and i try to avoid hittin them for the most part but theres been a few times where while having a blast boondocking through the trees that i didn't look far enough ahead and ended up in some tight situations where there tends to not be so many options other than pin it to win it. we've just always had a rule that when it gets to tight if its under 2 or 3 inches around then thats when trees turn to traction. then theres been times that it didn't seem so tight but when i got out ive noticed rips in vents and wondered wtf, how'd that happen.

i always thought they were super expensive as well but by the time you factor in a good intake (cutlers, bdx etc) you're gonna drop 250 to 300 bones and then another 100 or so on hood vents and gauge vents... you're pretty close to a diamond s hood. that's why i'm considering one for next season. i'm just worried about my gauge and a headlight situation.

The idea of the diamond S hood is second to none!! Nothing but cool motor and air flow. But it just hads that unfinished look like a hottie without makeup and a push up bra or somethin

ya, the looks do suck. i love the way my sno pro looks but the functionality seems awesome and when i'm done with the sled, slap the stock hood back on for re sale since it wont be all cut up from an aftermarket intake

I don't have a problem with the looks of their hoods. I guess it's just a matter of opinion because most people hate their looks. You want to see ugly, look at some of the homemade jobs out there. The functional aspects of the hood out weight the cosmetic.

ya, i like the functional aspect of this hood and knowing i'm keeping my factory hood all nice and new while i ride hard. also looks like this hood using the added m series air intake plenum would fix the intake bog situation.

This hood is a no brainer in my opinion. I ran one all last year and at times was over the hood powder and never had a bog. This year I am getting a '10 model M8 and that will be the first thing I put on. Run the intake plenum too with the stock box. I know a few performance places that have had drivability issues with the aftermarket intakes. Ran a SLP pipe and the mesh hood on my 09 and couldn't ask for a better running sled. My son will get that sled for this year.

Ugly? Man, You guy's are going to hurt my feelings. I think that they look pretty good on the Dragons and even better on the M Sleds.
