why not just modify stock intake?

hey

I ran this set up for the first time today with bdx intake, and was amazed at how the sled felt. night and day difference for sure.

Sooo, if timbersled intake works why just not put some prefilter/mesh stuff to cover the hole in the stock snorkel? Advantage of the snorkel is it prevents snow building over the mesh covered hole. No other holes needed? Maybe some barrier between pipe and airbox so it drags most of the air outside the hood.

Someone must have tried this?

If it gets that hot under the hood to trip the sensor would it not stand to reason that the air assembly attached to the hood directly above the pipe would be soaking up a bunch of heat? I would try the Moflow vents on the airbox and add a bunch of hood vents also. I just added the Timbersled intake and a bunch of hood vents to my M1000 and will post results when i get sled back together for a ride.

It will work good for ya i have the same on my m8, make sure to regularly clean the filters using k&n filter cleaner.

The Timbersled intake draws only air from the inside and works great. I agree with sandman on this. I think the mod he did would work just fine. I really don't think the bdx intake gets much air from outside after the holes get plugged in deep snow. And when you go to sell the sled everyone knows it was a mod. Sandman, what is your opinion? Would you spend the money on the bdx kit or just run you free mod?

I also pulled one headlight and installed some screen to get more heat out.

well thanks for asking moderatebill:) if you don't have or want to spend the money the modded airbox worked great for me. i ran a speedwerx bra on the front 2 hood holes and pet screen on the next 2 to keep the pow out. i do also have vented side panels to help keep the airflow moving. if you put the frogscreen vent covers on the front 4 holes it will accomplish the same thing. if you ride hard and love to push your sled through pow all day you may want to consider some type of heat protection for the bottom of your headlights/speedo. a buddie melted the bottom of his lights/speedo wiring on his M7 and M1000 because he thought he didn't need any;) you can heat tape or make a shield like this. i ran the shield until i did my headlight delete then i heat taped the wiring and bottom of the speedo. if you run a big cats head vent on the top in the front part of the hood this would not be the way to go, snow will melt and drip down right on the prefilter.
