why is my m8 buring so much gas?

well i filled up my 09 m8 on sunday to go for a ride and i set my trip back to 0 to see how many kms i would get to a tank, i realized by the end of the day i was down around a quarter tank and i had only done about 60km, i got about 90 km out of it before i had to fill up again. i know its an 800 and all and they aren't going to be the best on gas but this seems like it is buring way more gas than it should. could it be leaking gas? could the float in the gas guage be screwed up? i'm not really sure buts its ind of hard on the wallet the way it is now.
oh my the sled only has about 530 kms now and it is going in thursday to be serviced.
any feed back would be great and i know this is a bit of a stupid topic but i want to see what you guys think.
thanks

90 km isn't bad if you were in very deep powder all day . The guage isn't the way to check though . How many litres did you burn ????

There is the recall on the nut on the tank that needs to be tightened. Make sure its not leaking.

My 09 M8 gets almost twice the fuel mileage of my 06 M7.

I've run out of gas in 56 miles on my M7.

I consistently get around 8 MPG on my M8 even in deep powder.

Don't go by the gauge. Do the actual math. I'm quite certain that my gauge is quite pessimistic too. I don't trust any fuel gauges. Used to own a chev that after the half tank mark would go back to full. Now that thing was a little too optimistic. :(

That sounds about right. 90km = 56mi, I avg about 6 mpg. now if i don't play to hard I can get as much as 8 mpg, but that aint no fun.
If you ride hard like i do expect 5-6 mpg u.s. I don't know how to convert that to imperial but i'll guess its about 7-8 mpg imp.

yup

just be thankfull the price of gas went down from last two seasons my wife had the courtesy mid argument to bring up i spent over 10k just in gas last season..:eek::eek::eek::eek:

theres a big difference with the 10's mine gets incredible gas , mtn riding I get 10-11 and on trails I get 13+ I can go 125 miles of mixed riding on a tank, and I am a very throttle happy kind of guy, Ive rode approx 500 miles this season and I calculate my gas every ride, I always fill up before going out and reset my trip odo, It seems like I spend alot on oil though, Ive bought 4 gallons so far this season and just ordered another 6, I will only buy in bulk from now on, 50 bucks a pop at the shops is expensive , I can get full syn for 30 on the net, but I think I am going to run semi synthetic from now on. 24 dollars a gallon for ac oil

will adding a boondocker or fuel controller help with the gas mileage? i do both trail and off trail so i do want better. think mine is around the 8 mark will have to check. its a 08 800 xfire snopro.

thanks

I wish I had your problem i'm getting around 4-4.5 miles per gallon on a good day and it is race gas. Put a rack on the back and start packin some fuel!

yeah them damn arctic cats always suck down fuel and oil for that matter, buy a ski-doo man, problem solved!:D

the doos always make it back to the truck w/ more fuel than the cats because they are getting towed....

i found the problem on my sled when i get poor mileage out of a tank is the little flipper thing on the handle bar seems to get suck to the handlebar:D...

i haven't had that problem yet and it still gets horse **** mileage.

09 m8 153 mines great on fuel best of 13.5 on trail worst maybe 8 wfo.adjust your oil pump and they don't use as much oil.

Thats just how cats are. Everyone I've known that has cats eats Fuel and Oil like it's about to go out of style. Not much you can do about it...other than buy a 600 E-TECH Doo that is...

well i burnt about 30 litres of gas that day, and i'll have to check on the recall on the loose bolt that could be leaking and the oil pump, its going in tomorrow to get serviced so ill ask them. and i wasn't in real deep powder that day either. i put an arctic cat skid plate on my sled last week and is it possiable that i could have nicked a fuel line and it might have a slow leak?
