Why is 503 blowing fuses?

I seem to have a problem with my '03 503 blowing fuses. Since it was happening last year, my mind is a little foggy as to what the circumstances were. I don't think it mattered if the headlight was plugged in or not. I'm not sure if the handwarmers were the culprit either.

I'm just curious if anyone else had a fuse issue and what your resolution was. Oh, and I did step up the fuse by one size, but that didn't make a difference.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi

I did have this kind of probelm with my 600.Firt thing you want to do is check the complete wiring harness for chaffing against the frame or engine. If nothing is chaff you can do a ohm check of the wire end to end and the surrounding wire.If you have continuity with another wire and both end of these these wire are disconnected ,you have short circuit between these two wire.

Take a look at your headlight and brake light for shorts also, like melted pin.

With your engine running You can also check the output of your voltage regulator for voltage spike and good regulated output aournd 14.5 Volts AC (i think)

You can ohm check your stator I.A.W AD Boivin manuel Shop for that and all the other check stated before.

Rising the value of your Fuse is not a good idea, because you can melt your wiring harness instead of your fuse.

Good luck

With the 503F's it's usually the voltage regulator grounding against the frame rail where it mounts, needs a thicker insulating rubber washer spacing it away.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll have to check the voltage regulator grounding issue. I'm sure I've looked at it before, but if it wasn't something obvious I easily could have missed it.

I could be a short as well. I'll have to check the harness closely. I kind of bypassed that idea because of the amount of time between the new fuse and it blowing--but that isn't reason to rule it out.
