Why go with an 09 vs 08 M1000 Turbo?

Why go with an 09 vs 08 M1000 Turbo when you're changing everything?

I've been pricing M1000's back and forth for the last week trying to justify an 09 over an 08.

The 09 is the obvious choice with a 09 Sno Pro 162 being about $9800

But with 08's going for high $6k's low $7k's with a Powerclaw upgrade, is it really worth almost $3k for the 09?

Keep the following in mind:
I'll be premixing so the oil pump not working in reverse isn't that big a deal, there will be enough residual oil to keep the turbo happy. (i'm going to oil the turbo with the oil pump)
The diamond drive will be swapped for a BDX unit and I'll reflash the ecu for engine reverse
The driven clutch will be swapped for a supreme tool 11"

So, what do I really gain by building an 09 over an 08? Are the non reverse diamond drives holding up to turbos or will I be buying one either way?

My understanding is the motors are identical, the tunnels are slightly different, and other than that, it's the same sled once you swap tracks? Hmmmm.....

the difference beetween the two is the tunnel rails engine reverse over electronic gear two wheel kit track and maybe a few other little things i didnt know what you meant by bdx gearcase if you meant no more reverso or just new gears

my opinion would be to buy the 09 if you are gonna keep the reverse you have to buy a new ccu that produces more power they are pretty cheap then it will make things alot easier
if you go with an 08 its a little heavier you will probobly want to upgrade the track and then throw on your turbo kit

the 08's are a little easier to install because they make more power and that solves the 09's problem but if you just put on the new ccu(not the ecu) it with be just as easy

You are exactly right with everything you have said. You gain nothing with the '09 besides the different tunnel extension and bumper. A $2-300 upgrade at the most. I have also heard that the shocks may be valved differently, but have no confirmation of that and it sounds like the '09 valving sucks too. The non reverse DDs are just an '08 case without the reverse gears. The DD Lite is lighter and stronger than a '09 DD.

I was in the same boat as you. I bought an '08 with a PC a month ago. Still trying to decide on whos turbo to go with. As long as I can get the engine reverse to work I will have no regrets.

so if you delete the oil injection, and use the oil pump for the turbo you can't use the reverse?

You are on the right track. I would do the 08 and pay for half of your turbo... That is as long as you get the powerclaw and engine reverse. The 09 tunnel upgrade is around $340.

No, just the opposite. The '08 oil pump doesn't work in reverse like the '09 pump does. So if running premix you don't have to worry about the sled not getting oil while in reverse. Personally I wouldn't worry about it even without running premix, because I wouldn't leave the sled in reverse long enough for the lack of oil to be a problem.

I think you are right on track. I bought an '08 M8 in the crate last year for 8k and did the exact same thing. The money I saved almost paid for my mods and I had a sled that would walk all over the new stocker. Hold overs are the only way to go IMO. The manufacturers sell you a new sled for 11k and then release new model line ups five months later and drop the prices on the same sled you just bought down to 9k. This means your used sled might be worth 8k if you are lucky. That is a big hit in a short amount of time.
