Why don't dealers in Edmonton have any parts?

Out riding this weekend. broke/wore out some stuff.

Get back to Edmonton and start calling around for parts. NEITHER of the 2 dealers around here had the parts. Best case I would have them in a week. Plus they will not take credit card over the phone. Parts guys were nice though, i will give them that.

Called up the guys at Golden yet again...."ya, we have 100's of those. Its a common part that wears out." Great I said, throw some on the bus. 15 min call and its all handled. Should have them tomoro.

So, the question I pose is:
-Do the dealers here not care or understand?
-Is it a function of being a bean-counter first and a service provider second?

It plagues the entire industry now and it's based on accounting principles and carrying the absolute minimum inventory. P!sses me off for dirtbike parts as well.

Once in awhile you get lucky though. I needed a topend for my CR250 and Riverside, Cycleworks etc had to order everything in. I was pleasantly surprised that Scona cycle had everything in stock, plus they honed my cylinder no charge at the very end of the day and had a hottie working at the desk who knew her stuff :).

i'd say that it reflect's the intelligence of the business you bought the part from. If you have the invintory, you'l make more then the guy without.

sems to be something that goes around, you can't sell what you don't have in stock, you can order the same parts over the internet and delivered to your door, at the same price or less!.
Sounds like you need a new dealer as these clowns are not that hungry yet,

Shop around, make a list of dealers around your area, Greyhound travels around the area, dealers that see sales increase in parts will usually start stocking and they like your money
