why are bolt on turbo kits $1600 for a honda civic and 5k + for a sled?

You can buy a complete diesel turbo kit cheaper than you can a sled kit :)

But there are not 12 million M8's and M1000's running around :) so only the "special" get to have one HAHAHAH

When you say specail how do you mean it?
Really cool special?
Short bus special?
Or completely nuts special?
It would take a comb of all three to try some of the chutes I have seen a few turbo sleds on lately. LOL

Short bus special

deeeeee de deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :D

and a little completely nuts. Anyone can own a turbo, the thing to do.....go buy a sled with a turbo already on it and be ahead. As to why they are so high priced? alot of custom work involved. Parts are not mass produced

thats my opinion.

I know what cost is on parts alone and theres no way to do it for $1600 (unless you think that cheap ebay crap is name brand stuff) and thats even figuring making your own airbox, oil tank, charge tube, oiling system, fuel system mods, clutching, motor mods, Im sure I forgot a few things but you get the picture. If you can do that for cost and sell it you would be a millionare.

a car is easy to turbo, just plumb and go and fuel mod, a sled (in most cases) you have to build air boxes, oiling systems, increase the fuel system, mod the pipe, and as mentioned before mass production is the cost breaker

Most turbos for ricers cost more than the car itself, I guess most people think the same for a turbo kit for a sled?

RECREATIONAL VEHICLE!

i grew up in san diego and did the turbo rice rocket thing as a kid.......and no!....i mean NO!!! turbo kit under 4K is worth a flip.....Greedy and Jackson have been in the game for many years with a great track record, most people who want a tuner car to run more than 4 miles all get Greedy of Jackson

And before the big block dummies come hatin.......i had a 98 intergra type R with a jackson SC for 3 years.....finally sold it and gave a 95 Z28 camaro a try....put about 5k in the checvy product and still hated it, too heavy and cant corner or bounce in and out of traffic like a light jap car......ill never own a heavy fast car again.......thats just me....and anyone else who has had a jap tuner, they are a hoot!!

fun fact: the cheapest tuner is a 95ish honda hatchback with the prelude 2.2 and a greedy twin turbo kit.....not a daily driver, but scary fast and scary cheap

May not be the cheapest but id take a turbo supra any day of the week!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MANY 800hp+ daily drivers out there!

I did my time in a turbo supra....holy crap! I got beat out of the hole often, but as second gear got grabbed, at about 55mph, it was all me after that. never been in a better all around package.......except maybe my dodge;)

For me nothing like outrunning many smaller lighter single purpose cars in my heavy (7400lb) 4x4 daily driven diesel pickup.

So what's the scoop on these kits on eBay for $545. Are the turbo's using shopping cart wheel bearings with '78 Ford heater squirrel cages for turbines?? I've seen a lot of Chinese copies of all sorts of different mechanical parts......are these turbo kits made in North America??

It all LOOKS really cool in the pics

if that was for your own car you could buy that kit then buy a different turbo that way you know you have a good turbo

Read a couple of the buyer comments, some say product not as shown and others say product just like in picture for various items that were bought, one guy says his turbo kit was exactly as shown. Hard to say whether or not they would work.

No fuel pump etc included in this kit, good luck getting a refund or product support when you tell them what you did with it......LOL.

Don't think they would be able to help with clutching specs for this kit either......... :)

On the positive side, I guess we know where all the re-man'd first generation Aerochargers went......

LOL!

Turbo

I know that when I wanted to replace a turbo the ebay turbos cheap copies were 1/2 what it cost to go through a shop but I dont think they would last out of the parking lot in a sled app. they might last a couple miles on a car if you babied.

Prices for turbo kits are fair if you take into account the research that goes into them and you are paying somebody for their time, as well as support to make it run. Time on the hill is priceless.

This is assuming you buy and it works.....
I have seen it both ways.
