Sold my 06 rev 800x 159 last summer, didn't ride last winter:( looking for a sled for this season and i'm looking at a m8 or m1000, anybody switch over from a rev to an M and what's your thoughts?

i sold my 07 rev 800 r and got an 09 m1000. night and days difference in chassis. the m series is a true mountain feel chassis where as the rev feels like a long tracked trail sled. i wouldn't go back to a rev or rev/xp.

I actually have my 06 Rev for sale is somebody wants one. Big question - did you keep the sway bar on it, or did you remove it? One word describes the difference - NIMBLE on the M8! At 165 lbs in deep pow I want to be able to lean and turn, not have to switch my feet from side to side every turn to make it carve. With sway bars on it, I think Rev's ride top heavy.

my friend weighs 160lbs and rides a 06 151 rev easier than some m8 riders, its all about riding stile. but when he gets on my m1000 he gos about twice as far up a hill than his rev. M's are easier to get used to though. Most of the rev rider I know are more into jumping or just like doo's.

Both my husband and I come off of REV's. I didnt like mine all that much so switched it out for an M7. I love the M7, so much easier to throw around then the REV for me. I'm 117 lbs though. Brant liked his REV alot. We will see how the 2010 M8 compairs.

This is gonna be my first year on a M8. 4 seasons on a Rev. I loved it, had many pluses. But had things I don't like either. I took my sway bar the first day I had it. And a boss seat is a must(on most sleds). The 151 was a limitation. The thumb lever/throttle wrecks your thumb. And I got tired of fighting the chassis in the trees.
I am pumped about a longer track and the powerclaw:face-icon-small-hap
Better flickability. Plus way less thumb fatigue

I came off a 05 rev and i think the m is better in the hills in all ways but one down the trail on the way to the backcountry the revs ride awsome the cats do not.

i had an 04 rev 800 151, then went to an 06 m7, then a 07 m1000, then an 09 m8....by far the m8 is my favorite! once you get used to and figure out the m chassis, you will fall in love with it

This is great info guys, I am trying to decide between the two. But you think the M handles better in the trees? How do they compare in flotation?

I snowchecked an M8, it will be my first Cat, currently ride Poo. The Doo will most likely float better with equal track lengths since they run 16" wide tracks.

I went from 04 Rev to 09 Cat. The riding style is compleatly different. The deep snow capabilities of the M are definitly supperior to the rev, especialy noticable in the trees. Tight off camper turns are a breez on the M. My biggest problem is I ride the M way to hard. You don't have to counter steer the M like the Rev. Minnor inputs are all thats needed. This takes some getting used to. When you first ride it you'll be flipping your self off the machine all day. The M in my opinion is not as comfortable as the Rev. It feels like you went backwards 10 years, and you have to re-teach your self to ride a non rider forward sled. The M is also not as natural in the air. With the rev you could make instant corrections, even poping off little stuff. The M takes more time in the air to get it planned out and does not instantly change pitch with throttle or brake inputs. I guess this just means you have to go bigger,lol. The M flat out sucks as far as trail manors go, compared to the Rev anyway. A good aftermarket ski makes it much more managable. The M will not fold up like a cardboard box the first time you bump into somthing at 5 mph. This is a big pluss over the rev.

I've been on REV's for 5 years now. I currently have an 06 Summit 800 X that I love, and near the end of last season I bought a 09 M8 SP for a backup sled. I rode the M8 just a few times and its tough to get used to that much cowling in front of you after riding the REV. The REV is much more rider forward and it transfers weight alot more than the cat. Which is good to me for boondocking/tree riding/creek crossing but not so good for hill climbing! I'm not as comforatble on the cat yet, but time will tell. Keeping the doo though for sure, I think it is more fun for my type of riding.:beer;
