Whoop-em-up parking tickets

When we returned from riding out of Whoop-em-up Sat. 1/23/2010 there was a $56.50 parking ticket on our vehicle. We have a pickup with an obvious 28 ft enclosed snowmobile trailer. There were two other vehicles with snowmobile trailers attached that also had tickets on them. We talked to a lady that was in the parking lot, she was with the Idaho Parks and Rec. She said the Boise County Sheiff that gave out the ticket (officer D. Nielson) passed by obvious cars that didn't have their required passes without giving them tickets to put them on ours. The officer cited Idaho Code 67-7115 as reason to give the ticket. The code reads exemption #4, Snowmobile owners, when snowmobiling, shall be allowed to park their transportation vehicles in a designated winter recreational parking area without displaying a permit. I called the Sheriff's office in Idaho City this morning and the dispatcher said there was nothing she could do about it, I will have to go to court in order to get it dismisssed. I quoted the above Idaho Code and asked her to make the officers aware of it and she said no.

I was the white ford next to you and i guess i will see you there, maybe we can carpool up? and this sucks!

I am going to write a letter to the judge Monday. The lady from Parks and Rec. said she was going to tell her supervisor on monday about it. This needs to stop. Hopefully it will.

I talked to her and she was more than nice and told me to mail it in with a letter and the officer is now aware of it.

Ticket Holders contact Boise County Prosecuting Attorney.

If you got a citation on the 23rd and were in compliance with Idaho Code 67-7115 part 4, call the Boise County Prosecuting Attorney's office at #392-4485 and give them you citation/ticket number, so things can be checked out and the parking issue settled for once and for all (I hope). Previous to this message I contacted the prosecuting attorney's office and left a message for him to please look into this issue. I park there the same as you, without a parking permit. It was Karma you got a ticket.

The Boise Snowmobile Club Fun Run was on the 23rd and took place up Pine Creek by Idaho City. I didn't hear of anyone getting a ticket for parking in the tubing area and taking part in the fun run. In support of the Boise County Sheriff's Office, their radio system is the only contact the Idaho City groomer has with the world when they are out on 14 hr. runs to groom your trails. They keep track of the groomer approximate location by radio but because of the mountains contact can be spotty. It took the groomer 6 hrs. to groom the trail for the fun run. That was just over 30 miles round trip.

I happened to be in that parking lot when they were issuing tickets another time. The guy was going to give me one had I not been there. I had my sled in the back of my truck and he said he would have ticketed me had I not been there because there was no sign that I was indeed a sledder. I guess the sled and anti-treehugger stickers on my truck don't set me apart. Just an FYI for anyone trucking there.

Whoop-Um-UP tickets

The information that i have received is that the tickets were a mistake and that the Boise County Sherriffs Dept. is in the process of notifing those involved as such. If not i am sure you will all let us know and we will see what we can do about it. With the ISSA, Parks and Rec., and the Idaho City Groomers all involved in this we should be able to stop this nonsense. Also it would be interesting to know if any of you that received tickets have snowmobile license Plates?

As a voter in Boise County, let me know if this crap keeps up, and I'll talk to my elected representatives.

Plus, I know a few cops, and I'll pass the word around.

Truck without a trailer?

The only problem area I see in regards to Idaho Code 67-7115 is if you bring up your sled in the back of your truck and you off load the sled up against a snow bank. You go snowmobiling and your empty truck is left in the parking lot. No proof you used it to transport a sled for snowmobiling. If you have a ramp in the back of your truck, maybe that will be enough? Someone that makes the decisions will have to answer that question.

Sorry I have been to busy to reply until now. I do have a snowmobile license plate. My pickup is a one ton chevy. Thanks for everyone's help with this. I will call the Prosecuting Attorney today.

Talked to Boise County cops today, he's a good guy. He just made a mistake He wants to pass along his apologies for the inconvence. I don't think this will happen again.

we need to chip in and get him some new glasses, the sled sticker in my back window, lv2ride plates and a 2 place on a one ton is hard to miss!

could have been i asked 2 cars park about 20' apart and sideways in the MIDDLE OF THE FREEKIN LOT to move to the outside so truck with trailers can park.

Up date

this is a cut and past from the letter I sent in on Monday.:flame:

"Shane Vigil,

The court received your copy of the Idaho Statutes today in the mail. You have one of two options. You can plead guilty by paying the citation. Or you can plead not guilty which we would need that in writing, at which time we will set you up with a court trial date that you will show up for and plead your case to the judge. You can e-mail me that plea or fax it to 392-6712. So I just wanted to let you know. If you have any questions you can reach me at 392-4452.

Christine Elkins

Boise County Deputy Court Clerk"

Parking

I think if they want to write tickets it should be to the snow plow drivers, moores creek was not done on the 23rd and several of us snowmobilers were stuck not sure if whoop-em up was done...But all those little skiers doning the *****in about us sledders when they dont have to have a sticker on the little sticks on their feet!!! and parking all over us..leaves no room when they do just pull in and park in the middle of the lot...I hope you all get the tickets voided and a letter of apology from the sheriff and the court.. I think we all bring some $$$ to boise county and i will say if all fellow sleders keep getting tickets i will go twards cascade...GOOD LUCK GUYS
Just a little vent and rant i have....
