who would want another hillclimb event

I am wondering if prople would want to have a hill climb event at a ski resort maybe down on the coast and have it like jackson hole on maybe cypress hemlock or grouse mountain and races the sled on the balck diamond run. have the same rules in place from the hillclimb association and at the end of the skiing season i think it would be pretty cool but i havnt been up there for years to know if the hill is steep enough to have one but lets hear your thoughts on having something like that near or a few hours from the coast because i'd love to have one of those

Nice idea but. The north van ski hills except grouse are all tenured CRA crown land leases in parkland and as such motorized sport is banned. The CRA's that regulate the use of these hills is specific to skiing. You may have a chance at grouse as they own their land but the ski lobby will ***** loud. Grouse is the most iron fisted ski hill in BC in my opinion. Even the die hard ski crowd is pissed at grouse for trying to bill the out of bounds guys from new years. Also on grouse you have wild life refuges and these morons would ***** also. Tough one good luck tho. That said I'd come, you know yee hoo ski doo! Cheers.

hemlock

not sure if they still do, but hemlock used to have a hill climb event. never really watched it too much back then but seemed pretty flat. that mtn doesn't have alot of vertical. privately owned so much better chance than crown land.

Would be sweet. Back when I lived in ontario they managed to host the snocross in Kitchener at a small ski hill located right in the city (Chicopee for those that care). I agree Hemlock is probably the only bet, the Northshore is just way too full of snobs and extreme-greens.

down with the "downers on the shore"! you might want to think about doing this at apex mtn. resort outside of penticton....there are some hella steep runs there, and once the ski season is done, it's WIDE OPEN to sleds!!!:face-icon-small-sho

yes well i have thought about other mountains like apex, sun peaks, silverstar, manning park, any place that will have a good run for a event

apex

apex is a sick mtn! can u actually ride there after lifts close? don't people with cabins ***** about the noise? been a long time since i've been there, but i remember some pretty steep lines.

as i said, once the ski season is done, it's wide open to sleds.....as for the cabin folk, once the season is done, the cabins are mostly deserted...even the hotel, hostel and lodges shut down!

Rumours...

I heard talk of the Kelowna Snowmobile Club putting on a climb at Big White this year.

Anyone able to confirm that?

Years ago it was always a good time to be had at the Vernon hillclimb on Silverstar Mntn.
The hotels and bars benefit huge .

I have also heard chit chat around Golden about Kicking Horse Mountain Resort hosting some sort of sled up hill time trial event late this spring.....would be sweet, hopefully they do it.

Heard the Big White rumour as well. They had a hillclimb for one year only on "The Cliff" in '92. It was a pretty good pull, only a few sleds went over back then. The pic of me below was taken last May......ssshhhhh, we were NOT supposed to be in there!!

Silver Star was fun and a great party, but the hill was basically an uphill drag race. I raced there in '93 when everyone was running 2" plastic paddles!!

Red Mountain would do it... they let sleds up there in the spring.

Actually, all the new condo owners might have something to say now.

Oh wait, they all lost thier condos when the market crashed, we should be good to go!

"who would want another hillclimb event"

If someone puts on an event they will come,,,,remember the BIS in Revy a couple of years ago and the ones before,,,definately an opportunity for an organization or group to carefully organize an event and raise money for charity or such. Those events in the past wherever they were were a lot of fun. You got to watch,,participate or just hang out with a great bunch of people. All in all good clean fun and entertainment. Oh yeh and when they come they bring cash!!!

well thats cool there will be a race at big white but i almost think we should get a bunch of resorts to join in and all have hillclimb races and have a points championship just for the b.c events and have just a crap load of races maybe just because b.c has soo much area to snowmobile and we dont even have hillclimb events like jackson

The Yanks hillclimb at Wells/Barkerville was aways a must go to event.

But it all came to an end when the volunteers wore out and the insurance became a problem. It the same thing that kills all hill climbs, insurance and loss of volunteers.

Hemlock had one in 99. Sun Peaks had a wicked hill for the year end until the circut died in 04. Last year at the drags in Smithers they had talked about having one at the ski hill i havn't heard anything scince though. I am up for anything though hope it works out.
