Who rode stock last season?

Anyone ride their Apex or Nytro stock last year? What were you able to do on it and what will you change on it this year?:beer;

Big wheel kit going on this year. Gonna loosen up the track and try to get alittle more track speed. Cant afford the turbo yet. Overall needs to loose weight and gain track speed:D:beer;

I bought an 08' nytro from a friend and im going to ride it stock this year. Ive installed a timbersled rear suspension, fox floats on the front and put a street bike exhaust on the back. Im trying to lighten this thing up as much as my checkbook will let me. Im also going to try get a 162" power claw track with hartmans clutching. Hopefully this will be better than my piped viper. Next year BOOST!!

Yeah....no exactly gonna be "stock" then... :D

I rode mine completely stock last year. It's very very enjoyable in the powder, smooth motor, deceptively quick, but heavy when stuck and quick to bury itself in the steep and deep. I'm going to a Timbersled skid and a Polaris Series 5.1 track to start with this year. Hoping to get more floatation and climbing ability (from more track speed). Also, got the local clutching guru to update my clutching for improved performance, stock (at best) in a long pull I saw peaks of 8300 rpm, but typically hovered around the 7900-8100. Hoping to see 8500 ish now.

Dreams of a hair dryer.......:brokenheart:

Rode my Nytro bone stock last year. My wife isn't to keen on my dropping another 10k on my snow toy, especially with what we watched our retirement fund do last week. I pretty much have to break stuff to replace it with something better. Which often isn't to hard, except there's no replacing my no turbo with a turbo since I didn't have one to start with. My wife doesn't know much about the mechanics of snowmobiles, but she'd know if I suddenly had a turbo. :face-icon-small-coo

This year I'll be riding basically stock again, except I got a AAEN exhaust that I'll be dropping in later this month. Parts should show up this week.

I had some probs toasting the riser setup, both aftermarket powermadd and stock. So, I just got a ROX riser and I'm picking up my RSI bars, warmers, and stuff at the puyallup snow show on Saturday.

I really want to replace my rear suspension with a Timbersled. Stock rear haggered, I'm holding the back up with a 2x4 right now. After late season high speed whoop sessions into June it's lost all it's stiffness. I don't know how to contain myself very well.. he he. I have to take it apart to find out the issue, but I'm sure it's not good. I have to make a strong case for $1700. :lips:

Last of all I'm gonna put a tether in, probably pick that part up at the snow show to.

Shouldn't you be aiming for 8900-9100 rpms? That is what mine is at on hard pack. I didn't get to do much testing in deep snow.... but she used to dog down quickly and track speed would drop also...

I went from 7900 to 8900... just a little bit of change!:D

My motor was stock.... and seat and gas tank...

I did floats in the front, and Kmod in the rear.... Challenger track , powermadd riser, Cyclops helmet light (total must!) LED rear light (big bright one) rear rack and shucks auto turnout... lol.

This season, I got under tunnel exhaust and fix my running boards to do.... I would like to get closer in clutching..

As far as limitations? I rode with 800's all year, and RT's as well. Yah, I couldn't climb as high, but not much of my riding is steep climbing... more diving in the trees and carving and the like.... It worked great.. I got stuck a little more some days, a little less other days... It normally depends upon your line and how good of a rider you are. I have seen many people get stuck mostly due to crappy line selection... Then again.. I got stuck twice by hitting my stupid kill switch.

Why i didn't ride it completely stock(07 apex se) It was pretty close the only things i changed was simmons gen 2 ski, mountain mod seat and white knuckle exhaust. I'm riding it the same way this year and no planed changes till next years turbo and Timber sled’s Mtn. Tamer. It was limited to my riding abilities rode with revs and cats never once wished i had something else. very capable sled :beer;

Same here! In the deep the apex is hard to beat IMO! Wanted to turbo it just needed to get rid of the 900 before I was gunna go turbo. Dont have any problems beating mod 2 strokers in the deep stuff!

I'd be tickled pink if I was pulling 8900 on the long hills, but I'm thinking with the deep powder climbs 8500 is a good hopeful goal....anything more will be a pleasant surprise!

I spent all last season on a stock nytro and i am 6'4" and 250lbs. I would not plan on highmarking anyone but i had more fun just tree riding and sidehilling than hill climbing, as far as the low rmp stock for big guys go to a shockwave and white secondary spring and use the stock spring for lighter riders and adj helix angle back till you lose all that suck down in the soft stuff. i knocked a gram off the stock weights i aimed for 8500 rpm in tougher conditions. The best thing about the nytro is never powder chokes no matter how you try !

I rode my Apex stock all last season. I went just about anywhere and loved it. The only time It gave me a bit of trouble was picking my way through the trees. Thats not the sleds fault. I think if I keep it I will change the track though to C.E. 2.5" If I end up with a Nytro I will put one of those tracks on in the 162 length.

I started out stock last year. Best handling sled I ever had. Love the key start, double the mileage of my Doo, not one problem. I added better boards(a must for any sled) and a Yoshi pipe late in the season (March) I gained 200-300 rpm, a better hole shot and throttle responce.

The biggest issue with the Nytro is the track, it seems like the sled has plenty of power, but it seems to not have the traction to go as high as the other sleds(08 Dragon -- Doo XP) on the hills.

This year I will try a Camo 162, a 18 tooth gear, a little clutching and see if that will keeps par with the others.

Me: 6'2" 240+ gear...
Sled: 08 Nytro MTX no changes to motor or boost or anything...420 miles last season

2008 Mods: Cat Spring in clutch, Timbersled Suspension, Timbersled Front suspension, Better Boards, Riser, skiis, Lightweight battery, TrailTank misc. other stuff..

2009 Mods: WildChild Steering relocation, PowerClaw 162" Track, Ice Age Rails, HiperFax, Geared to 19T top, Shockwave Helix, Titanium R1 Muffler, etc. and maybe a little non Natural Aspiration if time allows...

Sled is VERY good, but needs diet!!!! with Diet, can hang with most sleds...best mod is Timbersled suspension!!!!

Since February 2006, I have been riding a stock Apex (3000 on odometer). Extremely easy to ride in the deep, and bullet proof reliability (which is why I bought the sled). It's a dream to sidehill. Currently learning to go down hill, turn 180 and go back up at midhill. The sled is amazingly nimble, and allows me to continue to challenge myself. The only disadvantage with a stock Apex, is in bottomless powder (4 feet or more), it won't climb as well as the light weight sleds. An experience rider can overcome this disadvantage by using finess to make it over the top! Will be riding the sled stock again this year to see how much further i can push it.

Future improvements, maybe a turbo. The Tapex's rule the mountains, but not sure I want to be able to blow over every hill with no challenge. I also love to ride, and the turbo will eat alot more fuel, cutting my riding day short. Tapex looks like a blast though.

Oh ya, it is heavy when stuck, but the sled jack solves that problem.

I've been stock on my 06 Apex for the last two seasons (1 yr old when I bought it) and have put on 2500kms. I've been riding Revy, Golden and Fernie spending most of the time boondocking lookin' for untouched where ever I can find it. Carve, carve, carve...

Machine has a few new parts from a few tree encounters (all the plastic infront of the bulkhead)...is it possible to break an a-arm on an Apex!? Damned they are tough!

Other than repairing my $%#$-ups I have replaced the gas rack, installed a riser, installed a left hand throttle, and removed the left hand throttle.

This year I have ported the track (might as well try it on a beatup Maverick) and have ordered MPI's parking break delete and a CR racing 2 wheel axel kit. I'm debating on whether to do a tunnel dump exhaust or Simmins Gen II skis next.

This seems like an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

(grab candle)
Hi - I'm Tony and I too ride a stock Apex. I have had my 'problem' for 3 full seasons now. I just can't stop riding a stock heavy 4-stroke.
(pass candle)

Seriously though - I'll agree with the above comments. I have 3,500 (or so) miles on my 06 Apex that I bought new. I have ridden a turbo, but just can't convince myself to pull the trigger on one. IMO the stock sled is great in powder, in fact I feel like I get more tired when riding hard pack snow. I just have to 'fight' it more, I guess in the deep snow I use my legs/weight to steer more.

I love the sled, I like the Nytro too, but I prefer the power and track (footprint) on the Apex for the riding I do. We'll see what they come out with next year, I think we'll see new powder sleds from Yamaha and Polaris this spring.

More like 4 strokes anonymous! From what I have read the Nytro doesnt seem to be short on power, just short on track and good clutching.

Well your local clutch guru isn't worth the money your spending, as the Nytro should be clutched to run 8800-8900 if you want to be where the power is!!!!!
