Who is running a13 silber kit with a vipec

I have a 13 Silber kit that I got tired of messing with all the time. I like a lot of other guys drive 12 plus hours to ride a couldn't have a sled that ran sometimes. needless to say I ended up biting the bullet and calling Cody Phillips and it was the best decision I have ever made. In the group of guys I ride with we now have three Vipecs 2 turboes and 1 big bore and all run flawless. I am not on here to bash anything or anybody in my opinion there is only one way to fuel a turbo sled and that is standalone. I had a 12 pro with a 1,000 miles of no fueling issues had a couple other problems but we won't get into that. just got a brand new 14 a can't wait to hook up with cody and get it rippin. Good luck guys

Best Post ever^^^.... Couldn't agree with you more. This is what just pisses me off about forums. No one will tell the whole truth about a product they spent there money on... like there embarrassed that they spent money on the wrong product or something. Sucks cause you have to really read through the BS, when we should all be helping each other out picking the right product.

I don't think it has anything to do with being embarassed but rather some people may feel like if they were to tell the real story, they may end up with zero support from the vendor in helping them make the product run as expected.

On the other hand, we have witnessed many times where an aftermarket kit or component is blamed and it turns out such kit or component had nothing to do with the issue at all.

Very true, didn't think of it that way... Sucks for people trying make a decision where to spend there hard earned cash

Haha. People have no problem laying into me on the phone:rant:

I think what you you see on snowest is an accurate reflection of whats going on. I have never refused service to anyone and In fact I have no idea who's screen names relate to real names except in a few cases. I even ended up helping the guy that called and cussed at me at 4am because he called back with a better attitude.

IMO bashing somebody on the forums should be reserved as a last resort. I don't think unhappy people are saying great things because they fear losing support. I certainly hope not. I will say people seem to bash Silber and I less lately because when they speak to us they know we are doing our best to resolve their issues. It is hard to be mad at a guy that sends you parts off his sleds, overnights things to save a trip, answers all hours of the night, offers to let you borrow his sled when yours has an issue and all the other things we are known for. Its hard to explain but I try to treat every customer as a friend and part of a community. I have had times where my sled was burning oil and I needed a turbo. Funds were tight and a customer sent me his old Journal bearing without asking for a dime. Without him I would have missed a weekend. People sent me their old parts when they updated so that if somebody else needed them they could have them...for no charge. You wouldn't bash your friend publicly would you? These people know me and know that I would never intentionally sell them a product I believed to be inferior. They know I am doing everything in my power to resolve their issue and genuinely care about the problems they are having. My integrity is worth more to me than selling turbo kits.

Hell, Skibreeze rides with me and I installed his kit and that doesn't stop him from voicing his opinion. :face-icon-small-sho

Some call them nut swingers......I call them friends and happy customers. Silber has 500+ kits on the snow which is more than a lot of the bigger names combined and you are bound to see more happy people and frustrated ones :face-icon-small-coo

I have always supported Silber and Corey simply because they have always supported me. Now I have a problem I voiced my opinion so if others have the issue they can speak out with out feeling like they are bringing the issue to the table. Not too many have been speaking out cuz not to many are having the issue. Out of Silbers 160 plus kits just this year there are only a handful that have wierd issues. Another point I would like to make is, if I have to have a problem with an aftermarket product I am thankful I am having a problem with Silber rather than any other vendor simply because I trust them. I know there is a fix coming very soon Justin wants this fixed more than any of us do its his rep.

My statement above was a general statement and was meant in no way at the current runnability issue.

I was simply trying to convey that rather than embarrasment of purchasing a product that doesn't work, some people might feel like it's not in their best interest to broadcast on the forum and tell the truth about how a product is really performing or how a vendor has treated them, not lived up to promises, etc. and remain silent.

I don't think I've seen anyone "bash" you or Silber during this deal.

I have been mostly happy with my Silber kit. I have definately gotten more grey hair because of it too. I think the Vi-pec is a step in the right direction.

You sure see Silber come up with problems more than any other vendors(maybe even more than all the rest combined). I'd we curious if that is just because there are just that many more. I'd have to imagine Boondocker has just as many out there as Silber. They don't seem to be having the problems.

Its funny. I sell a ton of kits to people that had Boondocker kits and Im sure they sell a ton to people who own silbers :face-icon-small-dis

I am one of those people that will wait patently for a fix cause I know they are working on it and care about me. If I knew they didnt care or werent working on it I would be going ballistic. It still sucks though. Why couldnt I have one of the good runners....

How is running the vipec different than running a bully dog reflash, doesn't the BD have logging capability? If so aren't you still going to be limited by the tuners map being locked up with no end user adjustability. I don't know how most of the vipec tuning guys are doing it but I guess I just assume that most are remoting in to install maps and then locking up the ecu to keep the customer from screwing with it since it's not the simplest for the avg person. I know it cost me extra to get the unlocked map for my setup.

The vipec eliminates the stock ECU and controls the motor and tubo on its own. I have been told the stock ECU can use as much as 12 maps for certain situations like intake temps, elevation, load on motor, pipe temp, throttle position, etc. So I imaging in no easy puzzle to solve where the vipec is its own ecu. only one map with a fuel table for rpm boost and temp. I will be corrected if I'm worn but this what I've been told

I am planning on running Data logs this week and so is another silber owner. We have different issues. I have installed 5 kits since 2011 so mine is spot on installation and my friends is a dealer install. Corey will be getting these files to go over with Justin. I have to say i have fewer issues since going to 11 psi. It rips like no other. I am cutting down on my race gas this time as well. Its gonna be all good very soon I have no doubt. Oh and Boondockers kit isn't all that and a bag of chips boys I rode with a boondocker Pro in Janurary that boggedin the trees.

Installed a vipec on a silber yesterday. Install went smooth.

He called me at 8pm on weds night. Said he was riding this week end. So I took care of him.

When you buy the vipec you can get it any way you want it. We can set up up with a base map, we can teach you how to perform map changes, we can tune your sled for you, or we can lock the map. Any way you want it. If I give you a very complex mapp that has a lot of variations and layers. The map will be locked. Because it is sometimes confusing where to make the adjustment.

But a open map with open loop tuning is very easy for the end user the play with. And really is a lot of fun IMO.

Turbo performance will not hang you out to dry. We will support you, teach you, and help in any way. Because our thought process is a smart turbo customers have a better experience. :face-icon-small-ton

I believe I am on the same "fence" as a lot of sled owners. I enjoy riding a stock sled in the mountains but absolutely love riding a boosted sled, when it is running good. I have yet to pull the trigger on any kit simply because my time on the mountain is limited to 10-16 days a year and I don't want to be sitting with the hood up or tire kicking because of a frustrated bog or problem. I took a step back from boost years ago on a carbed sled for this very reason. I have absolutely no doubt that the new kits are head and shoulders above anything I have ever wrenched on but the fear is still there. I enjoy wrenching and working/improving my ride but don't want to be doing it when I hit the parking lot after a 1200 mile drive and 4 days to rip. I just want to rip. I soooo want to feel the arm stretching pull of boost again but just can't seem to pull the trigger because of all the issues stated above. All sleds are bound to have issues, stock and mod, but I just want them to be as limited as possible to my heated shop and not while picking lines through the trees or sitting at the bottom of the hill while my buddy's tear it up.

Have really enjoyed all the boosted info on sw over the years and will continue to read. Hopefully I get over my fear and pull the trigger on a boosted sled. Sooner than later...

Thanks fellas

vipec = stock turbo sled ;). You know you want to!

VIPEC and Cody Phillips

If you go on YouTube. Check out some of Cody Phillips vids. Silber with Vipec. Don't watch the vids with launch control. They will scare the crap out of you!

One night late I was digging through some vids. I finally ran into a Pro vid that really sounded crisp. Most sound like brrrrrrrrrrrrrap. Finally something that made me consider upgrading from my carb turbine.

I would give you a link, but I just got off the short bus.

I am considering having Bryce or Cody build me something next year. I don't just want a 'kit'. When you are a back yard builder for years, you have something particular in mind. I too think that about the Precision situation. I think Bryce and Cody outweigh that though. Plus with stand alone the possibilities are limitless. I have not talked to them on the phone but I have some ideas.

Also, maybe pawpaw will chime in. I want to see what his results have been.

Hey Guys, I have not been on here in a while, been out riding!!! I wrote a long drawn out story about my experience and hit the wrong button and it was gone, so now I will give you the short version cause I am not a good typer and don't want to do it again. Those with more questions can message me. Okay, I have a 13' Pro with a 13 Silber. I rode it all of 12/13 season. I wasn't unhappy, it had it's bog here and there, probably mostly my inability to push the right buttons, but it worked, and really good for the most part, but I wanted more. My Silber dealer at the the time talked me into Fastracks port and polishing, and a PAR head with turbo domes. Which both are awesome companies and I've use their stuff before so that was not a big deal. After doing this, first week of April, we could not tune this sled in. My dealer said no biggy he would write another map, but season was over for me so we wait till fall. In fall of 12' I had talked with Cody Phillips about a VIPEC. But my Silber dealer at the time told me if I went with a VIPEC I was on my own and he would not help me. So I did not do. So... back to fall 13', my Silber dealer tells me that I need to just put on the Bullydog and all is good. I had talked with Justin before this and Justin told me the BD would not work for my mods, I would need to go back to stock, or stay with the Dobek box. Easy decision, I called Cody, talked over the pros and cons with him, (were no cons), loaded up my sled and headed for Cody's place in Utah. We installed the VIPEC, sensors, etc, in about a day and a half. Cody had wrote a map from scratch based on my description of what was done to my sled. We test ran on the stand and it was almost perfect, I would say 90%. So we headed for the hills. In about 30 min on the mountain Cody had it dialed the rest of the way, I headed home the next day. A few days later I rode up in the Stewarts, and did some Data logs to show Cody. Another cool thing Cody did for me, a switch on the dash to turn logger on, and a 2 position switch to change fuel maps, one a little leaner than the other. We sometimes unload at 1800' and run up to 6000' before we ride. So I had a rich map for down lower so I could play, while the rest of the guys baby theirs till elevation. Cody remote logged in a couple times to fine tune and we were done. This sled flat rips, only problem is Cody's sled ripped harder. I got to ride his sled in Utah at 17lbs boost. That ruined me, haha. After a couple weeks at home I couldn't take it, I had Cody order me a Garret GTX 2867r, with Tial housing and Tial MVS gate, same as him. Makes sense to run the same thing your tuner is doesn't it? So no I am not running a Silber any more, I have nothing against the Silber. I have a heavily modded sled, almost 35K into the build, I say this not to impress anyone. I built this sled over 2 years, and it's something I have always wanted to do. And I wanted the best, in my opinion Cody, VIPEC, Garret, and Tial are the best right now. But the key here is Cody and the VIPEC. He is amazing at tuning, and the VIPEC will do so much that you can't believe it. There is no one better at tuning than Cody in my opinion, my sled flat runs. I don't worry about bogs anymore, or hesitation, or if it's gonna work, cause it just does, plain and simple. Cody is more than just a tuner, he got me all the parts I needed and provided installation advice along the way. I haven't been with out a problem or two, but it has not been with the turbo or fueling. I had some issues designing my oil tank, and how/if it should be vented or not. I stretched the factory head studs right out of the gate and blew a head o-ring. Then lost reeds(I had about 800 miles on them so it was time). Also lost bearing on jackshaft and wobbled out my C3 pulley and stripped my drive belt. But no fueling issues. Cody is awesome to work with and knows his stuff. I don't want to take away from the kit builders. They got their work cut out for them, they are trying to make a kit that works for everyone, at every altitude, in all snow conditions, with all sorts of different fuel qualities, etc. I would not want that job, they are trying to make every ones dreams come true. Their kits probably work on 80% of the sleds.. 70% of the time.. in 60% of the conditions. Cody only has to make YOUR dreams come true.. on YOUR sled. His map is specifically designed for YOUR sled, not one for a hundred, it is custom tailored and tuned for YOU!!! That is the difference. If your gonna buy a mass produced kit, your gonna have to deal with some tuning issues, all there is to it. If your using a kit with a VIPEC, if its not perfect then something is wrong, probably the tuner?? For all those on the fence give Cody a call, I wish I would have a year earlier. I have about the same $$ into mine that I would buying a high end kit, difference is this is mine, I have some things done you will not find anywhere else, I have 1/4 second or less of turbo lag and the logs to prove it. If things go as good as they are, I might sell the piece that is making this possible, along with Cody's knowledge of tuning. I don't know a dang thing about tuning with the VIPEC, I don't need to, Cody is a phone call away. A BIG thanks to Cody Phillips, you have made my sled everything I knew a 2-stroke turbo could be. -Aaron. PS, I in no way want to discount what Justin Silber is doing, he is making leaps and bounds in the turbo market, especially for a small independant guy(not corporate boondocker type). I didn't want to hi-jack this thread, but wanted to share my experience with Cody and the VIPEC...call him, you won"t regret it.
One thing I wanted to add, I did run the VIPEC on the Silber kit and it was awesome. It ran better with the VIPEC before it was fine tuned than the best day it did with the Dobek box, it's not even fair to compare them. But to answer anyone questioning this, the answer is yes, It runs awesome with the VIPEC, if I had to choose between upgrading my 13' Silber kit to the BullyDog or getting the VIPEC, it's no contest, I'd do the VIPEC!!! Its almost same price as BD upgrade, but way more options, especially if you have future plans for something different.
