Who has had to spend a night or ? in the mtns?

Spent the night few yrs back. Were up at around 10,000, above tree line, -10F, & all the sudden wind came out of no where. Being it was so cold, instant white out. Couldn't see maybe 5 ft & was getting dark. Couldn't find the only draw out that wasn't a shear cliff. drove in what we thought was a straight line until we came across our tracks. Running low on gas, almost dark, evryone cold, we crept dwn to a tree line, drove in as far as we could & found a couple big trees that were dwn in a X. Dug it out between them, cut pine bows to line area for sitting, got fire going. It was a fierce storm & got dwn to -20F with 40 -45 mph winds. Took turns cutting logs w/little fold out saw. instantly warm you right up. We all made it out next day w/no frost bite & are all prepared if it should happen again. Been close many other times but this was extreme conditions & not that bad.

Spent a long night in the Gravlies a couple of years back . Was heading into a cabin that I had never been to . Snow set in about 2 miles from cabin 15 miles from my pickup. Lit a fire got out my sleeping bag and spent a restless night. Took 8 hours the next day to find the cabin but when I did I had a good story for my friends there.

Close about 10 years ago, but no cigar (thankfully). The families were getting worried though when the clock hit 10 p.m. and they hadn't heard from us. We called from the motel shortly thereafter.

Funny, we've discussed the same thing at times. After all the B.S. was done though the concensus was that we drive too far (1200 mile round trip) to only ride a few days and spending the night on the mtn on purpose as opposed to sleeping in a comfy motel room with a warm shower would be, like, insane. LOL

Now having said that, it does sound like somewhat of an adventure. Hmmm...

I guess I have it better, I only have about a 20 mile drive. But it is all about the fun, I think... Insane? Or just foolish? That is the question.

Never "had" to, but after a close call or two, and volunteering for a S&R in the Snowies that didn't turn out well for the lost person, my buddy and I went out and spent the night, just as if we were stuck on the hill.
We didn't bring anything other than our normal gear, which includes, tarp(s), saw, hatchet, xtra socks/gloves/etc, food, tools, etc.
We dug in a bit and made a top shelter w/ one downed tree and a bunch of pine boughs. Lined the bottom w/ boughs and started a fire on the open side.
Kept warm all night, none the worse for the wear, but man did we have to cut alot of firewood.
