Hang time, I lost the motor on my 08 D8 RMK 155 last year midway through the winter and it had a extended warranty on it which the extend service contract paid $6000 towards a $6300 engine repair.

I also understand in your sled is still under factory warranty the plan usually costs less. Check with your local dealer for some suggestions with price options with length of warranty coverage.

I was happy with the $600 I had previously spent on this sled and will buy the coverage on all of the poo 800's that I own for now on!

Warranty Company Info.

Aftercare sold by Bristows Polaris in St. Cloud, MN. I would check with your dealer and get the info on which warranty they carry and sell so you can compare apples to apples.

Not sled specific, but I will never purchase another extended warrantee on anything. When You read the fine print there are so many loop holes you will end up paying for it twice with an extended warrantee. Also living in a small town 300 miles from any dealer for anything It just makes more sense for me to fix it myself, rather than trust the clowns at the dealership to do it right the first time. While I pay transportation, hotel and the like.

I tell everyone of my customers to NEVER buy an aftermarket AUTOMOTIVE warranty. That buisness has went to crap in the last 5-7 years. The companies get sold over and over and they wont pay for crap, I have to deal with it all the time.

NOW.......sled warranties. Yes there are a few good companies out there that have not been sold in the last 20 years that do provide a very good service. Plus the price is much more in line at 500-600 for 3-5 years on a powertrain warranty. Bottom line is talk to your dealer, find out what they offer and what the history has been with them.

The warranty that Bristows is selling is a better warranty then the factory polaris warranty. Much easier to get a claim covered. Eric

SEND LAWYERS, GUNS, AND MONEY.

I am normally against extended warranty's for some of the reasons Loudhandle brought up. But not always with a sled. My dealer is close by and I don't have the expertise that guys like Loudhandle have with fixing these expensive toys! The only time I have ever use the extended warranty was on my 2005 Fusion. In it's second year I had 8000+ miles on it and the engine went south. They covered everything but I had to pay the $50 deductible and that was it. I snowchecked a 2013 and I did buy the 4 Year bumper to bumper warranty for I think $400. But that warranty is really three years. Polaris covers the first year and the extended warranty covers the next three. It won't cover any consumables, belts, bulbs, track, Hi-Fax etc. But that being said I still don't trust these company's for the reasons guys like LoudHandle and AKSNOWMOBILER have stated in the past.:light:

A Polaris 800 crate motor is $5000. (I held the redeipt in my hand.) If you don't have the warranty when a chunk of cylinder falls off and breaks the bottom of the case, what are you going to do? I would never buy a Polaris without the full 4 year warranty, which is why I just bought a new one.
Buddy sold his 09 Dragon with the brand new crate engine, after he got extended warranty to cover it. He sold it for $5000, engine and sled. Which pretty much means that his perfectly good sled with a grenaded engine was worth NOTHING.
I have never had a warranty on a sled in my life, or needed it. But with Poo engines, even dealers will admit that the Pro engines are only good for 1800 miles. Try to sell a Poo 800 without a warranty, it won't happen for anywhere NEAR book value. (I just bought an 09 RMK in great shape with a brand new top end (cylinders and all) for $3500. Book is $6K.

There is also some stuff to deal with between Polaris and the extended warranty people:
Same sled as above, extended warranty paid for a crate engine after catastrophic failure. (Does Poo know any other kind? :) The engine came either as a long block from Polaris, or was put together from new parts by the dealer ship with a pinched head gasket o-ring. The owner didn't realize what was happening, thought he had coolant burping issues until the o-ring completely failed, then it was obvious. Couple hundred miles like that, with the slow leak. The dealer fixed the o-rings, gave the sled back, a couple hundred miles later the cylinder skirt broke and took out the cases again. Guess who didn't want to pay, based on that they had JUST paid for a new motor? Extended warranty. We agreed that Polaris (not extended warranty) needed to cover it, either because the long block was shipped with a pinched o-ring, or because the dealership screwed up when building the engine and pinched the o-ring. Either way, one of them needed to pay it, as it wasn't the customer's fault. Lots of fights and threats of lawsuits later, someone paid it. I am fairly certain of what really happened and who made the mistake, but it was not my deal so I am not going to point fingers. But he didn't have to buy the engine, which is what he cared about in the end and was more than happy to sell the whole mess for $5000, new engine included.

That really stinks. It's sad company's can get away with things like this.

Yah, but funny thing is that his expectations for that sled were SO low, that he was THRILLED to sell the whole mess for the cost of a crate engine! That is with some nice aftermarket stuff on it too.
But the best deal was he was able to find a low mile 2011 Pro with lots of warranty left for only a little more than he sold his sled for.

So who are the good aftermarket warranty companies out there? I've got an 11 Id like some coverage on.

Maxi, Call your local dealer and see what kind of experience they have had with the aftermarket sled warranty companies and see what they sell and how much for how long.

It is absolutely crazy to buy a Polaris short block in for $6300 at the dealer to only end up with a engine that has a 30 day warranty.

I do also realize on the back side of the coin that other issues exist that can burn down a motor besides the common design flaws from poo such as a torn intake boot or bad fuel besides, etc., etc..

Yes Indydan offers a 3 year warranty on his motor which is much better then poo but not if the concern is caused by a lean or bad fuel condition.

I have not had any non pay issues with any sled or Motorcycle esc company, but I have been dealing with different ones for 25 plus years so I know what to say and not to say when talking to them.As far as the above double engine failure we as a repair shop have to warranty the work we do whether or not we assemble a engine or buy a long block for 90 days and what a gamble it is with the 08-10 motors to warranty one for 90 days the 11-12 motors non issue.Hopefully the 2013's we won't have to do any

Ive talked to my dealer, and they cant point me in any particular direction. I was told since the sled is out of warrenty they can re-up me with Polaris? Anybody have a reccomendations? Looking for an engine warrenty only.

Talked to my dealer again today and since I am out of warrenty on my '11 Pro, I'm SOL. Nothing available. Does that seem right?

Can anyone help me out here? Really only looking for powertrain warrenty.

Poo ain't stupid they know it is a time bomb I already asked about a warranty last yr---Fat chance it is like buying health care when you have a serious illness.
Options
1 tear it apart buy a kit and hope for the best.
2 Sell it or trade it take the loss
3 Ride it like you stole it and hope someone does steal it.

I went with Indy Dan, if it hasn't grenaded yet then just the top end is $1000 if you want to add the long rod for piece of mind it's $2500.

Spent all afternoon on the phone and gained alot of knowledge. Nothing I wanted to hear however, but good info for everyone.

I talked to Polaristar and Polaris, basically if you dont re-up WHILE you have factory warrenty, your SOL. I taked with Marc at Bristows. He was very helpful, but I would be better of trading in my sled over buying a warrenty. I was quoted $699 for two years, bottom dollar. He sells Aftercare and swears by it. Better than Polaris I'm told. I googled the crap out of warrenties as well, and it appears that the only people that will take your money are fly by night companies who are based out of Zambia.

Guess its time to call kelsey @ RK Tek

I don't understand how we're in the 2013 model year and a sled company that's been around for years can't build a motor. It sucks to think about a sled only lasting for maybe 2000 miles. WTF!
