Who designed the oil tank on the 09's

How in the world are you suppose to get the bolts out on the side of the oil tank? Dang things strip out in the oil bottle. Then when you finally get the 2 bolts out you find the hidden 3rd one that really is impossible. Who in the world would put one clear in the front where you can't get at it. The had to put that one in before the sides are on.

If you have ever removed the oil tank on an M I am sure you are laughing. If you haven't tried it take about 4 hours and give it a whirl, its only a 10 minute job. Just make sure that your dealer has a new bottle in stock because it wont come out without some mild coaxing. IE yelling and screaming until you get so mad you brake the bottle one way or another. All the nice sharp edges on the bulkhead that slice your hands all up really put the finishing touchs on the project.

I have learned enough now though that I should be able to get it done next time in just under 3 hours I hope. My kids might even be able to come into the garage next time without asking mommy what those words mean dad was saying.

yep

you got me laughing after putting pressure on the bolt via the tank in order to get them out they still stripped they after cussing i just got pssed and ripped it out and i felt better in the end (i taught it who was bossss)now you can laugh at me you dont feel so pissed and stupid now do ya

same thing, had to use a die grinder to remove one of the bolts because it stripped in the tank and then figured out I had to pull the throttle bodies loose to get it out without destroying it. The best part was I removed it for a bdx oil delete and step 1 was remove the oil tank, thats it. It should have said remove hood, all plastic, intake, throttle boddies, heck just take the whole sled apart it takes about the same amount of time.

I had the same trouble. I just used like a 3/8" drill bit and drilled the head off of the bolt with a cordless drill. I works pretty good. Also, don't use loc-tite when you put the new bottle and bolts in. Haven't had any problems so far.

i took it off my m1000 to do the bdx delete and a somewhat simple job ended in the use of a grinder and oil all over the floor due to puncturing the stupid thing trying to squeeze in out of that crevasse.
what a pile

i must have gotten one that they forgot to loctite, had the thing off and on shelf in about ten minutes today. I was dreading it after reading some of the posts

Never mattered to me, if you're going to pull it out, WHY would you put it back in!?!?:D

Each one I've done has been a pain in the arse, but they go in a different location afterwards(best location for an oil tank on an M series... the trash can) anyhow, so no big deal.

got mine off on my 09 m8. got the BDX block off plate on and the case drilled and tapped and oil line ran. all went smooth. already feels lighter

Oil pump delete is one of the best mods you can do to these sleds. They run so much cleaner with the premix, and you create alot more air space under the hood.
I think the last one I did involved a pry bar which just pops the oil tank off the bolts.

is everyone mixing 40:1? i plan to atleast use that but might add little more oil on days i know ill be wide open all the time. Like the days we have to break trails for the snowmobile clubs

I've got 4 of them and run 40:1. The beauty is it get 40:1 whether wide open or at idle.
