Who actually uses their mountain bar anymore?

Bought me a new pad on my pro tapers(got a different color) and deciding if I should even put my Mtn bar back on. I can't remember even using it last year, was wondering others opinions....?

Use #1 for me:
I keep it on so my 2 yr old daughter has something to hold on to.

Use #2 is when I need to roll the sled to get it unstuck. I like grabbing it so I don't pull on the controls. It is nice if you have someone helping you it gives you an extra "handle" to pull the sled over with.

Been thinking the same thing, especially on my Doo because it's a piece of crap anyway. I do use it once in a while horsing he sled out of a tight spot but not while "riding" it. Doens't really hurt anything leaving it on though.

Nice for rolling the sled over for sure. I never use mine when riding though. Whenever I ride with someone and see them using the mountain bar in the parking lot I know it is going to be a long day.

They are a super excellent tool to smash your throat, chest, or teeth on! Just wait until a few new cat guys get some time on theirs. A brilliant design engineer who doesn't ride snowmobiles made that one into a DEATH V. I guess it's actually a training tool to get you guys to learn how to ride. It usually only takes a couple smashes before you take em off!

I know my bar well and the bar by definitions is: A great tool for stopping the heart during adrenaline induced excitement or arythmia from having fun. Most uses occur from riding a sled when the sled suddenly decelerates due to: a log, tree, stump, hard pack snow, bottoming after a drop, hitting a sudden rise during flat light, laughing at a friend eating it and one follows suit .54 seconds later. Pain is caused by your continued forward momentum in the same direction and speed until impact. One good note is most mountain sleds do not do much over 80! Hate it but it does keep the handle bar bag in place.

Geeze, I was thinking it was a whole lot softer than eating the crossbar pad!! I like the guy who said if he sees someone using it at the start of the day it's gonna be a long one. That is so true :tea: I better quit using mine while in the parking lot :face-icon-small-hap

I've had this thought for quite a while myself. The times I use the bar is on those slow, hard packed ridge lines where you have "side hill" with both skis on the ground. I actually use it to help steer a little. I also find myself using it at slow speeds when turning around at the bottom of the hill. Last winter, I swapped out the standard narrow bars on my IQ to a set of Renthal bars with no side hill bar. I did fall off a few times reaching for it at the above mentioned instances. I agree with you all, for all on-the-throttle riding, it is useless. Most of us side hill better on our lest side anyway.

Couldn't agree more. My first year riding out west I can't even tell you how many times that thing smashed me in the chin/face and made me bite my tongue. 3 years without it now and I've never looked back :)

The Doo ones are so soft you couldn't smash anything on them. Just floppy and they come loose all the time. You guys tipped me over, coming off today.

Us midwesterners use it because we all suck at riding in the mountains, and need every advantage we can get!:face-icon-small-hap
the mountain bar is a dis advantage not a advantage. the day you remove your bar and use it to hang up things in the shop is day one of learning how to mountain ride correctly.

defineatly put it on.. i took mine of thinking the same thing i never used it dont need it.. u use it for a hundred different things not riding.. in crap snow its nice to have also

If you like a mountain bar, keep it. If you like a lefty, keep it. If you like your sway bar... well you see the theme here LOL.There seems to be a movment among some riders to try to impress other riders by saying, if you are a good rider you don't need these sled options. What's next... you shouldn't need a seat if you are a true mountain rider?? Regardless, keep them if you like them and don't worry about what others say. JMHO :face-icon-small-win

Now that's funny!!

I cannot remember the last time I actually grabbed that thing while riding.

I always thought it was there so you don't do a face plant on the top of the console. :face-icon-small-con

Yeah, I don't want to sound elitist. One of the main reasons I know this is I actually attempted to use it when I first started riding and was horrible. Just kind of grew out of it I guess.
