Pretty fun yesterday, everything is waay wind-blown and sun effected, but you can get pretty much anywhere. Took advantage of the hero snow and toured around brandywine a bunch. Busy up there, looked like everyone was burning tanks heading to Callaghan. Heard the snow was a bit better out there.

Looks like we're finally getting back into winter this week. We need it!

Friday was deep. We were first into Chocolate Bowl and breaking trail was a serious mission. Luckily a bunch of the blackcomb snowmobile guys showed up on their supersleds so we let them do the work and followed up when they were done :)

It was some thick, dense, coastal powder, but faceshots aplenty. Bound to be lots left up there too, we didn't quite use it all up ;)

.. and just a heads-up for Sproatt riders, especially those coming from the city without a 4x4 (or avi gear, I'm hearing) The lower parking lot (right off the highway) is getting targeted by tow trucks a lot lately. The only legal spot to park is 100' up the road at the next parking lot. That road can get rutted out pretty good and difficult to get up, especially with a trailer, and that little parking lot fills up quick, especially on the weekends. AND stuff still slides in the trees, bring your avi gear, as if that's even a thing...

So, the lot by the highway is not legal for parking?

Correct, the one covered in "no parking" signs is where you are not allowed to park.

Apparently it's a turn-around spot built specifically for plow trucks, because they can't drive the extra 3 min. all the way to function to turn around in the huge empty paved lot just off the highway at Cheakamus Crossing that's blocked off and used for absolutely nothing since the olympics. So since the plow trucks are super busy these days, turning around in that lot is essential and so the vultures have been picking on the easy pray on the weekends. Nothing like a tourism-dependent town really making the visitors feel welcome.

hey, me and 5 friends from Sweden are going to Whistler this winter for the first time. Im trying to find a good place to rent snowmobiles for 5-7 days and somewhere to find a guide. We are experienced moutainriders in sweden.. missing avi training tho.. Anyone got some suggestions? thanks!

No Limits Motorsports rents sled out of Squamish but do not provide guiding service.

Ray Mason from Totally Awesome Adventurer's out of Pemberton has late model Ski-Doo brand sleds and will provide guiding service and knows the back country very well. RGM on BCR if you want to contact him. (He will not come on this site because he has to pay.)

Chris Brown and Geoff Kyle are based out of Whistler and have turbo and non-turbo sleds for rent and provide guiding service. Both are on this site and you can search their names for contact info. They come highly recommended and are both amazing riders. They can also provide accommodations.

The Sea to Sky corridor has a lot to offer in regards to types of terrain. You guys are going to have fun! The town of Whistler ROCKS! Fingers crossed that you will have deep pow and sun! They don't come together very often in this area! :face-icon-small-win

If you cannot find a guide and need help on where to ride, PM me and I will tell you where to go based on your riding experience. Been riding the this area for over 20 years.

Thanks for the fast response. The company in Sweden that are maninging our trip are partners with canadianwilderness, do you know anything about them? Feels like its not for us but what do i know :P

Totally awesome adventures looks good, think we will talk to them.

I hope luck is on our side haha :)
Also do you know if there usually is a high demand so we have to pre-book sleds/tour early?
Might take you up on that information but i will give you that pm later. Thanks!

Canadian Wilderness is partnered up with Canadian Snowmobile Tours. The Canadian Wilderness is mostly back country dog sledding as far as i know and operate out of Callaghan Valley.

Canadian Snowmobile Tours operate out of Tricouni and Sproatt. I see them all the time. Blackcomb Snowmobiles operate out of Brandywine. These companies are great if you are a beginner sledder and want to get into the Alpine but it is a slow "follow the leader" groomed trail ride with some play time up top. If you want the real deal back country alpine experience contact Chris Brown at http://ridewithchrisbrown.com/ or Ray Mason at http://www.totallyawesomeadventures.com/. Both these guys are avy savy and will take you to places that will blow your mind. Keep in mind you have to pay to play!

Ah okej.. We decided to talk to Ray so we just have to set up the date for the trip now.. If i understand correctly he is based in pemberton? You wouldnt happen to know any good accomendations there? Or would it better to live in whistler?
Haha yeah this trip wont be cheap :P
thx again
