Which sled? a Polaris Assualt or XP800?

Ever consider buying a dragon or a base model RMK and taking the $$ you would have spent on the assault and buying some upgraded shocks that will perform well for the drops and jumps as well as perform better in the pow?

The shocks and the shorter track are normally the two points that people considering the assualt look for. HOWEVER I would say 80% of the people that buy them are not happy with it as it is. That sled was purpose built and if you want to ride powder with it, it won't do well without a track change.

Personally I'd buy an RMK and upgrade the suspension to do what you want it to do. then you have the best of both worlds.

Or buy the assault if you really want the 146 and then swap the track out. But you will still not have the climbing ability of the standard 155 on the RMK or Dragon.

Red Beron

It sounds like if i want to climb at all the the assualt sucks. I rode a XP half the season and liked it for the most part but I also like to drop cornices and thought the assualt would be ideal. Anyone ever tried to highmark with a assualt stock track?

I have a Assualt for sale, this one is super clean rode one week out west.

Agree with the above post regarding the RMK. Get one of those, put on some Zero Pros custom valved by Carl's cycle. Then swap out the rear shocks, add some rail doublers, and drop off cornices til you're blue in the face.

The polaris 800 motor has a lot of reliability issues, and ive heard of a lot of guys not happy with the assaults deep powder perfomance (a lot because of the track). So imo i would go with the xp 800 if you wont go with the cat ha.

Everyone that I've talked to (and many on this forum too) that has a BD box on their 800cfi has not had a lick of problems. There is something in the electronics that the BD box gets rid of and cleans up.

i agree with basicly everyone here. if you want to climb the rmk or dragon is the best choice. Personally, i got a 600 shift 155 and i love it to death, but if you did some minor changes it would probably be much better than an assualt climbing for the same price

I have heard from a couple people that Rocky Yancy, on his Boodockers Assault had no problems staying even with T-Dragons on climbs.

Track speed was higher on the 146 comp track than on the 155 tracks.
