Which plug? ecs or ecs-5

I just went into the dealer to change plugs, on my 09 xp. Recommended is the br9ecs... The dealer sold me the br9ecs-5 and told me the -5 has replaced the ecs??? The gap is different, the -5 is 20mm compared to 36mm... That just dont make sense to me? Is this correct or is the ecs the recommended?? Thanks, chad

mine said -5 and regap them.wrong!!!most dealers are f###ing idiots(atleast everyone i go to) and dont even know what plugs to run.and its even in the owners maual

NGK will sell different plugs for different gaps. You can run either but if you choose the ECS-5, you should re-gap to .031" from the .018" that it comes with. Even though NGK comes with the nice cardboard sleeves to protect the gap, I recommend checking it anyways.

Is the electrode different in the ECS and -5? Or just the gap. I was told not to regap from .018 to the .031 by the dealer, that it is to far to open? I think they were just out of the ECS and to sale plugs at $7 a pop they told my this BS....

I just spoke with NGK to clear up this issue.... The BR9ECS has a .032 gap and the BR9ECS-5 has a .018 gap. The plug is exactly the same other than the gap. Adjust that gap to preference and run it. A solid steel gauge from the auto parts store is easiest to gap instead of using the pheeler gauge to open that gap up.

You want the NGK plug -> Product # 4677 (BR9ECS) .030 gap

this is off the ngk website...:eek:
(NGK doesn't recommend adjusting the spark plug gap < or > .008". The reason for this is the ground electrode and center electrode won't line up properly, hindering spark plug performance.)
