Which Oil To Use?

well...

I just contacted Motorex about getting another shipment of snowmobile oil and they are no longer selling it... :(
Looks like I will be switching back to Blue Marble as well...

Thanks for the opinions guys. Sounds like there are plenty of options. Has anyone used Amsoil? Good or bad experiences?

TH

I used Amsoil for the last six years, mainly ran intercepter it is their mid-grade 2-cycle oil. (It worked great for me) No need for dominator(race oil) and the lowest grade worried me. I started running Blue Marble because most people I talked to said it was the best out right now. Ran 2 gallons through already this year and seems to burn off as good as amsoil maybe better.

Torco full syn. Pulled the valves at 2000 miles. They were not in need of cleaning for function but cleaning for looks. The valves moved very smoothly and freely before cleaning and quite frankly the difference after was not that noticeable. I have used Torco for years in my bikes, sleds, quads, etc and have had incredible results.

Anyone running Motul Snowpower? I was looking for a semi-syn and gave this stuff a try. Haven't heard much about it from others tho.

I've almost burned a jug now and it doesn't stink much, doesn't smoke much which is great. Price was not bad at all either. I'll have to check the Rave's and see how they look.

Asking about what oil to use is like asking everyone what beer should you drink.

There is more than 1 good oil out there. As long as your tune is good, I don't think you are going to find a major difference. It might change from one sled to the next. I would get the oil that is easier for you to get. I run Amsoil Interceptor. Most of the guys I ride with use that as well. One guy in our group uses Dominator.

I use $12.00 a gal blend cheap and good . check that your oil pump lever returns when you let go of the trottle. mine didn't and they use a lot of oil . I added a small spring. Known problem.

For what it's worth, I have a 1999 Doo Formula III 600 with 8,100 miles on it, always used ski-doo mineral oil and pistons are still within spec, no plan to rebuild top-end until 10,000 miles.

been running Castrol super mineral for many years(cause it was cheap)! no problems ever! switched to shell advance mineral this year cause it was on sale for the same price as castrol...at canadian tire of course! ..always watch their flyers!:face-icon-small-hap
