Which block heater 96 gmc 6.5 diesel

I bought truck in 99 and never had to replace the block heater until last year not to bad huh. Well after replacing last year with a napa block heater last year i had to replace again this year. Ok so i replaced with a carquest heater about a month ago, that pos is already burned out will not heat. My question is this do you think that i need to replace with a genuine gm heater or what. Real pain in the @ss to keep replacing as you have to drain coolant and remove tire to gain access to block. All replies would greatly be appreciated thanks.

Maybe a dumb question but have you installed a new cord when you changed heaters. Have seen the cords cause problems. Really never had problems with napa heaters.

didn't replace cord on napa heater but when i tested it out it was fried, did replace the cord on the carquest heater though and now it is fried.

Go with the gm unit. quality is better.
